Advantages: brilliant range, high quality, Disney

Disadvantages: costly

Being a lover of all things Disney, except for Mr. Disney himself who had himself frozen, the Disney store is always one of the best shops for me to visit. Whilst taking an extend lunch break I went on a shopping expedition, I just got paid and so had money burning a hole in my bank account, after wandering in and out of numerous shops and buying stuff that I really didn’t need I ended up in the Disney store. This is why the lunch break became extended.

This store always incites me in, I don’t know if it’s the big TV at the back of the shop, or the whole range of cuddly teddies beneath it, but when I walk past the window I regress several years and am that big kid again pulling their parents into a shop and sulking when they don’t get what they want. I suppose it’s the effect of the shop, not me?!

If we look at the shop from a marketing point of view it’s layout is very well thought through, it draws you in and even if you don’t want to you end up looking at everything. There are a few stands close to the door and then what can be best described as a maze of displays and shelves that draw you in. There is then a big TV at the back, well made up of several normal sized ones, but with the picture spread across them all. There was some form of Disney film playing in them, as you would expect. Then below this was a beautiful pile of big teddies, I was initially drawn to it by a rather large Winnie the Pooh, as you may have noticed by my profile I love all things to do with the yellow bear. However I noticed a vast array of lovely Disney characters, the famous and less well known, that made me feel like a big child all over again.

The shop is very spacious, which makes a change from most shops I visit, but it did help that it was quiet. Normally I visit on a weekend and it is full of screaming children and annoyed adults, but it was very calm, relaxed today, with no kids and few shoppers. The
perfect time to savour the store and take in everything they had on offer. I normally keep my visit to the store limited, time wise, as I find it gets very difficult to move and so warm, but I spent about an hour in there today!

The Product Range…
Well as you may guess the store sells all things Disney and revolves around all the characters that we know and love. There are the usual 101 Dalmatians and the latest film from Disney, in this case ‘The Little Mermaid 2’ but you will usually find that the products are mainly Winnie the Pooh or Mickey Mouse, as theses are the best loved, not specific to an hour long film.

Clothes – the shop sells a whole range of clothes for all generations. There was an extensive range of baby clothes, some beautiful dresses and baby grows that made me feel a little broody along with a range of little character slippers for your young one. We all know how adorable baby clothes are but these have something special, Winnie and Mickey all over the font of them.

Sticking on the theme of children I also saw some rather cute fancy dress outfits for the little ones. For those of us who have seen ‘Tigger the Movie’ you’ll know that Winnie and pals dress up as Tiggers’ to help their friend fit in. Well now you child can be a Tigger Winnie too! Yes that’s right, they were I think about £30 each but so lovely. They felt really soft and warm as well, I would have bought one if they came in my size.

Clothing is also on sale for teenagers and adults, I know from experience that these last well and can be worn lots and still not fade or start to fray at the seams. There are all types of clothes, from T-shirts and Jumpers to ties and socks. Perfect for the older lovers of Disney who feel thy have grown out of childish toys. I love their clothes, they may cost a lot of money but they are worth it, you get what you pay for as they say.

Not sure
if this fits in with clothes but I will add it here anyway, slippers and dressing gowns are on sale here as well, not badly priced looking at competitors prices.

Accessories – mobile phone covers, keyrings and purses for all types of people. Keyrings were about £3.99 and the purses ranged from £6.99. Oh personal organisers and bags can also be bought so just have a look and there will be something for you, or the person your buying for.

Bed products – bed covers and sheets as well as nighties, dressing gowns and such. Not only can you brighten up your wardrobe with Disney but also your bed.

Soft Toys – I have a thing for teddies and have loads of them sprawled all over my bed, the Disney store sells teddies of all your favourite characters, big and small. The little beanie toys start at £4.99 and then the teddies go up to a massive £60, for a big Winnie the pooh, I was tempted.

Teddies for special occasions – as well as the normal teddies you can also buy them for birthday’s wedding etc. I saw one today that sang happy birthday and was designed for a gift, he played the drum as well, sweet really.

Crockery – a huge range of mugs, plates and dishes etc. This store is wonderful if you are looking to liven up your eating times. There were nice sets for babies, when you first give them plate and spoon.

Collectible’s – there are things such as snowglobes, figurines/dolls and watches to collect. In a range of characters and situations it may cost you to collect but will keep you entertained and very aesthetically pleasing. I have begun my collection of Winnie the Pooh stuff!

Arty Stuff – very technically put there don’t you think? Well this speaks for itself I suppose a wide variety of pictures of characters and pieces of art to brighten up your walls.

Videos and DVD – well last but not least the shop sells what Disney is fam
ous for, it’s films and videos. Some of which are now available on DVD.

What did I buy…
I own a lot of products from the Disney store, both bought myself and given to me be friends and relatives. I never go in without giving in to the temptation to buy something, so since I have given away my shopping habits in other opinions I will so in this too, well why not?

Winnie the Pooh mug – a lovely big yellow mug with raised pictures of Winnie and writing around him. £6.99 and well worth every penny, not that I am ever going to drink out of it. But it now has a place in my fireplace, with a Winnie the Pooh inside it, looking lovely as ever.

Winnie Beanie – a small beanie Winnie the Pooh, costing only £4.99 I had to have him, the little bee on his bum made my mind up.

Keyring – I bought a keyring with three small metal characters hanging off it. It was £3.99 and I was unsure as to if it was a waste of money or not but impulse buying won out and I got it.

I had the urge to buy a £60 teddy but I did have will power on this one, just about, well I was dragged kicking and screaming away from the thing and told not to look at him. Although there were many things I wanted to buy I didn’t, I was strong on this occasion and stuck to spending less than £20, well I had spent a lot already!

Besides my new additions I own a lot of products form the Disney store, most of which are Winnie the Pooh but I also have a Dalmatian dog that talks! I am always pleased with what I buy and al the products that have come from there last a long time. A downside is the price; it is a very expensive store, but well worth it if you ask me.

The staff were very friendly and didn’t hound me like most stores do, however my shopping partner was pounced on when I left him alone. They are helpful and obviously want to sell their products to you. Like any other store they hang around and look
at you but I found they did this discreetly instead of openly and uninvitingly.

This shop is perfect for all those who love Disney, are young at heart or have children. It is my little sister’s birthday soon and since there is a big age gap I am going to get something from this store for her, I saw it today. Although most of the products do cost a lot of money they are of high quality and last the test of time, unlike a lot of cheaper alternatives. You always get what you pay for and this is no exception. I have never had a problem with product from this shop and they have a good returns policy. Go on give it a go, if only to make you feel young at heart.

We like the stuff in the shops, but last year, we had a problem: Thomas lost his Tigger, his favourite bed time toy. He got so upset, we rang round most Disney stores in the south of England( and Central England!) and asked if anyone stocked them, as we knew they were no longer in stock at our local store. Two said they didnt know and wouldnt check, and two didnt know what we were talking about..one tried but wasn't much help and one went and looked for ages but couldn't find one. We eventually got one form america!
We were disappointed though at some of the response.
