Advantages: Wide fitting shoes
Disadvantages: poor telesales service
I completed one of The Shoe Tailor forms I saw in a magazine and sent off for a catalogue. I received it about a week later. The catalogue tempted me and I chose three pairs of wide fitting shoes which I then tried to order by phone. I was answered by the recorded message service but eventually got a member of staff. I explained that I wanted to place my first order. "Can I have your "customer number"? But I'm a new customer, Do I have a customer number? "There's a number with the information you received". So I went through the information again, I couldn't find one. "OK, What's your postcode, name, etc." This didn't help. My record, I was told, did not appear to be on their computer. I had only recently received the catalogue. Surely I could place my first order anyway? “No I have to have a reference number”. Then I was cut off! I redialed. This time I went through to their customer services department. I explained what had happened. Again my details were checked. Again I was told there was no record of me on their system. I asked if I could speak to a Supervisor or Manager. I left my telephone number and was told a Supervisor would call me back. I am still waiting! A week later, I received a card from the company offering me a 15% discount on my first order. My name and address looked fine. Their computer actually did have my record. I decided to write to them and complain. I’ll post their reply when (if) I get one.

- 03/05/03 What a farce!
I need to buy comfortable shoes and had considered sending off for a catalogue but it hardly seems worth the bother.
Thanks for sharing.
