Advantages: Bargain books
Disadvantages: Crammed
If I'm looking for a gift then I will usually pop into The works because I know I will find a great book at a discounted price. The shop mostly sells discounted books but there is a whole array of other stuff on offer too.
This is a place where the stock changes all of the time so you can't expect to have a name of a title and find it there. You really need to go in with an open mind and be happy if you come across a good book. There have been many occasions when I have been browsing and found a top book for half the price or less. My hubby picked up a hardback copy of a U2 book that he was going to spend over £20 on, for just 99p! Now that was a bargain to him to him but to others it may not be.
The children's books are brilliant and if Noah has a party to go then I tend to pop in here and look for one. They are of excellent quality and such a cheap price that I want to buy them all.
You can go there to pick up any craft bits that you need because that doesn't tend to change much. When I used to make cards, I would go here because they have really nice craft bits and ready-folded cards and envelopes at bargain prices. They also sell lots of other craft products including canvas', paints and brushes.
I find the staff to be the 'studenty' type and it's obviously not in the staff policy to be strict on dress code, as most of them seem to have metal through every part of their visible body and tattoos coming out of there ears! Despite how scary they look, they are always very helpful and are more than willing to help. Most recently I found a set that I wanted but it was the last one on the shelf and it was rather out of shape. I mentioned it to one of the staff and they were more than happy to see if there were any more around.
The one thing that I don't like about the shop is the fact that there isn't much room to get around especially if it's busy. They literally try and cram as much stock as possible onto the shop floor and it looks a bit of a mess. I find it hard to get the buggy around the shop without banging to displays and generally feeling like I am in the way.
This shop comes highly recommended by me and would suggest you pay a visit to the place before you go to Waterstones because you might grab a bargain.
Summary: A great place to go and have a browse!
