Advantages: You can pick up some amazing bargains

Disadvantages: Not everything is worth it

TK Maxx is the kind of shop you either love or hate. Their stores are laid out in such a way that you can't find what you want quickly. You have to rummage. You need plenty of time to shop at TK Maxx.They sell household goods, clothes, shoes, accessories, in fact except for food, you name it, they sell it.

TKMaxx unlike other stores, doesn't have "regular stock". By this I mean they get a lot of "one offs", it could be selling anything at any time. It could be the middle of summer and TKMaxx could get a load of cashmere winter coats for thirty quid a piece instead of one hundred and thirty. On the other hand it could be the middle of winter and they could be flogging bikinis and sun tan lotion.

If they've got what you want, no matter how unlikely the timing, if the price is right, snap it up! I once got a Ball Gown for about £30 which should have cost at least £100 more because the university and college ball season had finished and no one was buying.

A word of caution, some of the goods in TKMaxx are tat. You've got to have radar for a bargain and be to be a discerning buyer. You have to know how much the goods are worth -Janet Reiger underwear for a fiver- great. A pack of plain Asda type pants 2 for a fiver - not so great.

Once you get your head around the whole idea that bargain hunting really does mean hunting, you will be glad you went to TKMaxx!
