Advantages: Great range, absolute bargains to be had

Disadvantages: Can require patience, can be messy and disorganised

I am lucky enough to live in a town with a massive TK Maxx store nearby. I say lucky enough because I believe that if you have the patience and perserverence to wade through all the rails and general chaos that you will likely find in such a store then you can find some absolute gems!

The Good Points
=============

A fabulous range of designer labels at unbelievable bargain prices. I have recently purchased an Osprey mock-croc leather bag with an RRP of £225 for £50. This is the kind of purchase that makes it all worthwhile! I am frequently amazed by the bags in particular, you will find bags from top range lines such as Miu Miu, Fiorelli, Gigi, Ollie & Nic, Prada and Suzy Smith for very discounted prices, in fact their bag range is so hugely popular that their website (www.tkmaxx.com) actually offers them for sale online (though it does not sell clothes etc online.)

Aside from handbags they have a great range of clothes, shoes and accessories and a wonderful homeware department which is always my first port of call when I need kitchen equipment as again you can pick up designer ranges (of the kind you find in Debenhams and John Lewis) at low prices.

The stores tend to be laid out like a large warehouse, everything under one roof and a bit haphazard but handily they split the clothes into sections clearly marked 'jeans' or 'coats' so you can easily see where everything is and target the appropriate section. I do find that they stock clothes in all sizes which is great.

The shoe department is another one where some absolute bargains are to be had and its a great place to check for shoe brands such as Diesel and Vans which my local store (Telford) generally seems to have a good selection of.

My local store has changing rooms so you can try things on which is great. They are wonderful for kids clothes too which can be very overpriced (in my opinion) in other stores. Whenever a child I know has a birthday or a baby is born this is the place I head to because it has an amazing range and fantastic prices (I also find that parents of said child/baby are always very impressed with the labels thinking I have spent a lot more than I have!).

The Bad Points
===========

Well, my main criticism is that the store tends to be in a right old mess. The handbags will frequently be piled on the floor underneath the wall hooks they are supposed to be hung on and it looks like someone just knocked them all off and nobody has bothered to put them back.

The clothes also are on basic rails and all mixed together, sometimes it can be very frustrating to find an item you like but in the wrong size only to discover it is seemingly the only one available at all. It is hard work and requires patience to work your way through the racks and rails - although the hard work does frequently pay off in the end.

Overall
======

TK Maxx is definitely a place worth visiting if you enjoy the process of browsing as that is a skill most certainly required here. The returns though can be amazing, where else can you buy a brand new pair of designer jeans for under £30? Part of the joy of this shop is the feeling that you are getting a bargain as payout for your patience and it really is a great place for last minute gifts and stocking fillers because you will get a lot more for your money than anywhere else.

I personally think stores such as TK Maxx will boom during the current economic climate as customers get more savvy - and more power to them! Well worth a visit if you have one near you and remember that they sell a lot more than just clothes - need that perfect handbag or pair of shoes to complete your outfit? Then you are very likely to find something suitable here. A great shop.

Summary: A great place to shop for all sorts of things and find yourself a bargain!
