Advantages: bargain items, good selection, unique products.
Disadvantages: need to really hunt, not many staff to help.
T.K.Maxx is a discount store with a difference. It sells designer clothes, homewares and toys at discount prices.
I live relatively close to three stores and whilst the layouts are different, the concept and stock are very similar.
The biggest department in all stores is ladies clothing, you won't find beautiful displays or nicley dress mannaquins, there are just rails and rails of clothes and you have to look to see if anything takes your fancy.
I like the way they have it in sections such as 'dresses', 'active wear' and 'young fashion'. They also have it all in size order, this helps cut down the time spent looking for something you like.
The sizes go from a size 0 to a size 30 so there is a good chance there will be something you like. Don't be fooled by the 'discount' store image whilst you can get great bargains, in general clothes are still an average to high end price but what you are getting for your money is a designer or well known brand and possible better quality. For example I bought a French connection skirt in there for £22 that would have cost about £60 in the French connection store. It is like a huge outlet store for many brands.
They also have a menswear section, a children's clothing section, toys and books and a brilliant homeware department.
The toy department is great for presents and they have terriffic bargains, last Christmas I bought my son a whole heap of Brio trains and tracks for about a third of the normal price, they also have Lego, Playmobile and all the characters and action figures. They have games and art/craft kits as well as a good range of scooters and skateboards. I always pop in to get presents for when my children go to parties, they have loads of toys for under £5 and are always exceptional quality.
The home section is lovely it has everything to make your home beautiful and unique, from mosaic vases to oak dressers, feather dusters to Christy towels and everything is brilliant value.
There are a few points to make about shopping in T.K.Maxx
1) You have to be in the mood, don't go in if you can't be bothered to hunt.
2) You are prepared to serve yourself and wait a while at the till, there are very few till staff and hardly any shop floor staff to assist you.
3) If you like something, then buy it because it probably won't be there if you go back next week for it.
4) Take a carrier bag with you, they charge between 2p-15p for bags depending on the size.
5) Look out for their yellow ticket sale, amazing bargains to be had, I bought a Hugo boss suit for £3.00 and a pair of Nike tracksuit bottoms for £0.50p, it can get frantic but definitely worth a look.
I love it in T.K.Maxx, they have a great selection that changes each week, If you live nearby go and have a look.
Summary: Grab a bargain at T.K.Maxx
