Advantages: You might find an absolute bargain
Disadvantages: Lots of rubbish to fill the store, loads of rails to look through
TK Maxx is a large chain of clothes stores that sell clothes for men, women and children. I don't normally like shopping (I am a man), but I can sometimes put up with TK Maxx as it's not as bad as some of the other places that the wife drags me in. TK Maxx claims to offer clothes at massive discounts, but I'm not 100% sure whether they do - sometimes they have some good offers on, but they can be quite expensive for some things.
The stores I've been in have all been very large and contain a lot of stock which is held on masses and masses of clothes rails. This really puts me off as half the time I can't be bothered to look through all the rails - luckily for me, the wife looks through them for me, stops when she sees something she likes and shows it to me. Most of the time I'll shake my head, but on the odd occasion you might just find a bargain...
Most of the rails are filled with fairly poor "designer" stuff like Ben Sherman, Quicksilver, Bench and Nike but on the odd occasion you might find a real bargain from proper designer labels like Penguin or Burberry - and this is what makes TK Maxx worthwhile for me... 9 times out of 10, it'll be rubbish and I won't buy a sausage, but every now and again I'll see a great item that I have to buy!
As well as men's shirts, trousers, t-shirts etc they also stock a large range of ladieswear including heavily-discounted dresses and randomly lots of ski jackets! There's also kids clothes and toys as well as a large homeware section.
Although the clothes are squashed together on small rails, they are at least sorted by size - meaning that when you find the t-shirt rail, they're already sorted into small, medium and large which does make it a lot easier for the wife to look through!
The shops themselves are light and airy with high ceilings which helps you feel less crammed-in when you're up to your elbows in clothes rails.
One thing that really annoys me about TK Maxx though is their stupid policy on carrier bags. Without getting into all the global warming crap, I think they have a cheek to charge for carrier bags when you're buying clothes in a city centre! What am I gonna say? No I don't want a carrier bag, I'll carry the clothes around town in my arms for the next 2 hours!
Anyway, barring the carrier bags, it's a decent shop!
Summary: Sometimes good, sometimes not so good

- 26/09/09 I also don't like paying for carrier bags at TK Maxx - I do take my own to the supermarket as I expect to be buying something so take something to carry it home. I don't expect to have to carry loads of bags around town with me just in case I buy something - they should follow Primark's example - paper bags are recyclable. |

- 25/09/09 Not my responsibility Edinburger - I didn't invent carrier bags and I resent paying for them |

- 24/09/09 Until you come up with a way to stop plastic bags sitting in landfill for thousands of years (or longer), why not just bring a plastic bag with you? |
