Advantages: Other people like it

Disadvantages: Shapeless, ugly, overpriced clothes

Top Shop is one of those places everyone except me seems to love. I remember at high school when people used to rave about it, and the people I speak to roughly my own age still do.

Top Shop mainly sells clothes, shoes and accessories for women, though they also have a shop called Top Man, its male counterpart which is often found alongside.

In theory I should like Top Shop because I love clothes and I do like its competitors such as New Look, River Island etc.

Yesterday I went into Top Shop on the hunt for a lovely looking dress in a magazine. Every so often I think 'I should go to Top Shop', and then go and remember why I hate it. On stepping in yesterday, I hunted round for the dress (unsuccessfully) but also kept an eye out for any nice clothes, seeing as Friday was pay day.

The shop itself was fairly well spaced out for a Top Shop and everything was easy to get to. I'd never been into this particular one before and it did look nice, though the main floor displays kind of looked as if someone had pushed a few rails around and thrown some clothes onto boxes in a random room. However, that's not much of a problem for me, and I can understand how it created a 'look', even if it wasn't to my taste.

The biggest problem was the clothes. I like things to be quite fitted as I'm pear shaped and so things that are shaped around my stomach are good, because it's my thighs that are fatter. Every single top I saw seemed to be made with acres of material and had no shape to it whatsoever. I'm not even really sure why they bother with clothes sizes as the rule seems to be: sew a seam, cut some holes, done! This is all well and good if you're tiny or want to hide your stomach, but it makes me look about 3 clothes sizes heavier than I am (a 12), even with belts which aren't always suitable and sometimes don't work.

I also thought that all of the printed patterns on the tops were hideous, especially one in particular which was in horrible colours that two girls seemed to be exclaiming over as if they'd just come across the crown jewels or something. Each to their own I suppose!

I've only ever bought one thing there that I can remember, a plain white shirt, and I remember it being hideously expensive for what it was (almost the only fitted thing in the shop), but I had no time to go elsewhere.

Top Shop never fails to disappoint me, so I guess it's at least consistent!

Summary: Not for me

I do love TopShop but I agree it is sooo expensive! I only really buy the accessories from there or things reduced or in a sale.

I was just in TopShop yesterday and couldn't pick out anything I liked! I used to love TopShop, now I much prefer Miss Selfridges.

The price of some of the stuff in here staggers me - there's way too much tat to justify what they charge.
