Advantages: Great variety, unique
Disadvantages: Odd staff, overpriced.
Well, having peeped at a few reviews of TopShop, I can honestly give my opinion which mainly conflicts with the general concensus... I love it. TopShop is a huge conglomerate company, yes, and I generally prefer shops that are a bit hard to find and sell unique garments. Having said this- TopShop do sell an incredible array of everyday wear, weird and wacky trends, brights, neutrals, accessories, shoes, underwear etc...all under one roof. You would be hard pressed to walk down the street and not see any Topshop gear on anyone.
The great things about Topshop are the variety- I love how often they rotate their stock; nothing ever seems to stay there long. I love the 'buy it now or regret it later' section; a very clever sales ploy to make you want something even more. It is fun to pop in once a week and for things to be fresh, new and exciting; I find it mind-numbing when stores sell the same old stuff week after week.
The Topshop sales are nearly always brilliant- generously reduced, top- of- the- range stuff that has obviously been a bestseller and is just at the end of the line/season- not like certain other stores which actually have sale stock that they just take out periodically at a 'reduced' price. I love their 'buy one get one free' offers as the sales reach their end, and the fact you get 10% Student discount on any item, full price or not. Having said that, full priced items are a bit overpriced and not always of the great quality you would expect...
I find the sizing perfect in Topshop- I am a 12- 14 and their sizes fit my shape really well, most of the time. However, the oddly shaped clothes do not flatter a curvier figure, so I always steer well clear of these. Their jeans, dresses and shoes all fit and flatter my shape extremely well and I always buy my staples from Topshop.
For accessories and jewellery, Topshop does sell one of the most quirky ranges I've experienced, although they can be overpriced and not of the best quality. I only ever really buy my jewellery in the sales; they are normally down to about £2-4, so I do tend to snap up a whole basketful when I can!
One downside is the staff members- they are always very skinny, and have model-ish looks which can make us mere mortals feel a bit out of place and, to be brutally honest, a bit fat. They can be a bit judgemental when you give them a dress back after trying it on- you know they're nearly always thinking, 'it didn't fit because you're too fat!' I do just ignore them, but I can imagine this would really turn people off buying or even going in there.
In conclusion, Topshop is a tad overpriced, staff are a bit judemental, and you can't go to a shopping centre without one being there, but they do stock an immense range of clothes/shoes/accessories like no other high street brand. They are great for odd, quirky styles, skint students, and for the fashion-conscious among us.
Summary: If you've got the money and you dont mind judgemental stares...
