Advantages: Lots to buy and do
Disadvantages: Too much for the eyes to digest
If you live in Plymouth and tell anyone you are going to go to Trago Mills you can almost predict what they will respond with, 'What? Up or down?' This literally means, 'Will you be going to the Trago in Cornwall or the one in Newton Abbot?' Once that question is out of the way the person you are speaking too will hand you a big list of what they would like you to buy for them.
You see, Trago Mills is a huge store which sells any thing and everything at a huge discounted price. I remember getting so excited when my parents declared that we would be going there for an outing because at that age it like entering a whole new world. There was so much to see and do and a trip could last the whole day by the time you had studied the strange statues, chased the chickens, done your shop, had a ride and eaten a bag a chips for your lunch. It really was like a theme park or something.
These days I go and I know exactly what I need and tend to be in and out with an hour and half the time I come home with nothing. The thing about this place is it's so vast that you actually need to go there with some products in mind to buy. I find it very hard to go there and 'see' if anything takes my fancy because a lot of it is rubbish if you don't have a particular need. If you are redecorating then I would recommend that you go there because the paints and wallpaper are fairly cheap, if you want to buy a child birthday presents then it's great for that and if you want to buy a load of carpet then you can certainly guarantee you will find something here but if you think 'Oh , I'll come a long for the ride and 'see'', then don't bother.
Although the shops are sign posted, I find it quite hard to navigate my way around (that's not because I'm a woman). The order of the shop just doesn't make sense and I spend ages either circling over old ground or getting lost in the sweetie aisle (that's not a bad thing).
The parking is very adequate and even on a weekend, I've never had a problem finding a space.
The one thing I love about Trago Mills is that there are quirky little shops outside of the main buildings. They stock unusual things that you just wouldn't find anywhere else. I love looking inside them but they are only small so they can only fit around two people inside at one time (that's an exaggeration. There are also lovely gardens and lakes so you can sit outside and eat your pasty and enjoy the ducks!
If you are in the area then I would recommend that you pay a visit to Trago but make sure you have a few things in mind to buy or you may end up a little frustrated and bored or you could go the other way and spend on everything you don't need.
Summary: A day out at trago
