Advantages: really eclectic collection of fashion for men and women
Disadvantages: you have to be a rich man or woman
I consider myself quite a fashionista, favouring vintage and alternative styles. I also shop for these sorts of clothes for a living so like to think I know where to buy the most unusual clothes and the best bargains.
And Urban Outfitters is NOT the place. They sell some lovely things but they are all incredibly over priced - from their vintage to their concessions to their home wear. But nearly everything I could find elsewhere for cheaper. Usually around 50% less even.
Try asos.com, ebay and oli for their concession ranges at much cheaper prices. Try Au Naturale and a google search for their kooky home wears.
It's true that they do have some lovely things and it can feel like rooting through a treasure trove when you go in. But I like to think most creative ladies and gents could construct the same outfits for much less with a little effort. Of course, money isn't an obect for some people but in that case why not think of it as getting twice as much stuff for the same cash!
I had my eye on a pair of frilly, show girl style french knickers in retro prints in Urban Outfitters for a long time. They cost £18, which is a bit too expensive in my book. One day I was in New Look and realised they were selling EXACTLY the same knickers, in the same prints for £3.99 or 5 pairs for £10. I was so surprised I even took them into Urban Outfitters to compare the stitching etc. Without a doubt they were from the same supplier.
They sell a set of cupcake shapes lipglosses for £13. I have seen these in local gift shops for around £7. They also sell plastic bowls with crisps/ marshmallows/ smarties etc printed on them (i'm sure you know the type) starting from £5. These are for sale in Au Naturale starting from £2. A pair of plastic fake pearl earrings costs £10. You'll pick these up for around a £1 in a junk shop. A plain jersey headband, the type you'd pick up in your local chemist, used to be £10 an is now reduced to £5.
Having said all this I do continue to have a nose round during the sales, as they do stock some lovely brand, like Free People(an american fair trade company), that i love.
Summary: good for the odd bit here and there but not the place for a bargain
