“ Portraits and photos. „
We had some photos of our baby and us taken back in August and a week later gave in and paid £995 for 3 12" x 12" framed pictures, the photos were very good and although it was very expensive we agreed. On paying the full amount there and then (no choice), we were informed on the receipt in writing that it would be approximately 8 weeks....I have no concept how it takes your own lab which is in Cheshire 8 weeks to produce 3 photos and place them in a frame (there are only 3 frame choices) and deliver to Tunbridge Wells.
After 9 weeks I phoned the branch, and after 4 days received a call back saying they would find out...what a waste of a phone call. She said she was sorry and would find out.
They then phoned my wife at home 6 days later and said that they would be another two weeks. By now we had missed the opportunity to give them to family at our little boys 1st birthday party. They then sent an email saying they would send the disc with all the shots on which we had not asked for. This disc had a scrappy handwritten letter calling us Sue and Ed Peltar - my wifes name is Sally and our surname is Peltor. This is the sort of service you would expect from a third world company not one that charges Rolls Royce prices. The Sri Lankans who made my wifes engagement ring spoke no english still send us a correctly handwritten Christmas card - its care and attention, something that you would think that you would get from an artist?
They have now offered 2 poxy 7" x 5" pictures.
Personally I would rather they had the disc back and keep the photos, and refund all the monies.
They know we are not happy as they phone every day and say very little...what am I to do? Call the credit card company and cancel or hope that they make some sort of sensible offer of compensation?
I don't care about the photos anymore which is a shame as they are the only decent ones we have when our baby still had a cleft lip.
We won a venture photo shoot in a school fair, it included the photo shoot and a fee small photo. On booking they were not helpful saying it could only be used for a family shot and all members of the family had to be in the photo. On arrival at the studio on a hot day we were greeted by the photographer, she didn't bother to tell us her name or offer a drink! Room to change in was a basic, not a large mirror to check outfit or add make up or do hair. The shoot felt a little rushed and a bit contrived on some of the set ups. We were then booked in to see the images a few days later, again everyone needed to attend.
We were greeted by a different person this time and offered a drink and then shown the images. It was very much a hard sell to get you to buy the shots and the expensive frames they offer. The photos and the frames are all way too expensive for what is offered, mark up on them is at least 70%. The guy was quite pushy but we were happy with our one included image. We were then told it would take 6 weeks to arrive! Where are they printing these?
After 8 weeks I had heard nothing so called to be told of yes its here. Basically unless you are spending ££££££££££ they don't care and are not interested in you. I felt the whole experience was very poor value and was quite glad I hadn't spent more.
Never had such bad service from a Company. All smiles and happy for photo shoot and choosing the photos. We stupidly handed over £1,500...... In February 2012 and still do not have our order completed!!!Wrong size photos, ridiculously cropped photos which basically chopped heads off subjects.Richard, Manager promised to sort this personally, even said he would deliver correct prints to our home. Six months later, today, we went again to pickup prints and only one out of 5 ready!!!!Do not use this studio -you will regret it - we have.
We recently booked with Venture Photography attracted by the large adverts all over their web site offering a family session for £25.00.
The session itself was great fun.
The photo's were disappointing however, with less than 5 good one's out of the 100's taken.
We were then hit with the cost of the framed photos, NO WHERE on their web site does it give any warning that the minimum cost for 3 very small photo's on what are cheap basic frames is £300.00 & that's after the discount of £75.00 has been applied.
They only reluctantly offered the £300.00 option when it was clear we were not going to buy any as well!
We left the studio feeling very angry & mislead.
To make matters worse when the photo's arrived one of the frames was damaged.
I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. If they were honest about their prices we would have understood, instead they choose to mislead customers. One of the WORST SALES TACTICS in use in the market.
If you want a high quality photograph of your family, Venture is the place to go!
People say that it is expensive, but compared to what.... printing it out yourself and putting it in a frame?
Yes, some of the products are costly but worth every penny! Just think about how much you pay for the things in your house... your big flat screen tv, big comfy sofa or even your car. Why wouldn't you want to pay to have a fantastic, individual and totally unique photograph of your family? I've read some of the reviews on here and can see why people say that they are just of your kids jumping up and down, but Venture is what YOU make of it. They tailor it around you and your family - you decide what you want to include in your session, not the photographer, they are just there to get the best out of you.
The photographer even calls you before your session, just to get an idea of what you're bringing along - I would recommend to take something, but it doesn't need to be extravagant, just something that says something about you - if you are a reader, then take your favourite books/magazines or on the other side of the spectrum, a snowboarder - then all your gear! Something to show 'this is me!'. Chatting to them before you get there puts you at ease and not as worried - I was told that people are always nervous but that there is nothing to worry about - which was so true!
Talking to the photographer, they are all individual with their own ideas - they even showcase the whole photographers in a book that is shown to you on the day - it only seems like you see the same thing because people see it in the book and want to look like that themselves! The studio have up their awards for the photographers too so it was reassuring that they knew what they were doing!
You pay for what you can afford and I think sometimes people mouth off just because they are frustrated that they can't get all the ones they loved! I'm sure that the people saying that its too expensive and not good quality would be singing from a different hymn sheet if they could get it all for about £200!!
I think that the best way to get the best Venture experience is to find the best studio as they are all different, I've had friends that have been to other studios and have been really disappointed with the service but loved the photos. Its the icing on the cake when you are served by a person, not just a someone who works there - know what I mean?
I'm sure that they are all trained in perhaps the same way but present their knowledge in a different way - just think about the sales people when you go for a car - some are pushy and bite your hand off, whereas, others are really relaxed and open and get a good sale.
People buy from people who are open and honest and this quality does exist in Venture.
You do see other companies with the same ideas and for cheaper quality but Venture have come up with ideas originally. I can't comment on what their experiences are like but you are guaranteed a fun time with a Venture session!
I was told to consider the whole experience when looking at the price, from start to finish - I saw the voucher in a shopping centre and was told that was where it all started and reflecting on this can see why now, I got a voucher and was contacted about a week later and the lady was really informative, she told me about how natural everything is and how the photographer would get the best out of me and my family. She asked me questions about how we enjoy time together and don't just think 'what can I bring', what makes us laugh when we are together, things like that. Then getting at the studio, the reception staff were polite and got us a drink and showed us the book of photographs and for us to point out what we like to the photographer who came out after a few minutes and chatted for about 10mins. The studio was very much like I expected, a big white open space with seating at the side. Music was put on and the photographer explained about the lights and where the best position in the studio we should be, everything was great! We then basically messed about like we do at home, its just us and our dog, so we started with the dog and her toys, doing tricks etc then just me and him - cuddling and kissing, but not in an embarrassing public show of effection kind of way, just lovely and natural.
After wards she booked us in for the viewing, a couple of days later and gave us a price brochure, when I got home I looked at it and took a deep breath, I thought it was a printing error at first and was worrying about going back as I don't have that kind of money.
Of course, I got there and looked at the photographs and loved them all and just kept thinking of the prices until the lady at the viewing said 'consider the whole experience' and how it was a unique experience - some of the shots with our dog would be tricky to try and get again!
The slideshow had been put together by my photographer and she got in everything we asked for when we looked in the book - they listened to what we liked and did it for us - all in a voucher for £25! I'm sure that some people would pay extra to have digital work done on things.
We were asked where we were thinking of putting our photograph - some thing downstairs on the back wall. Then what size and were shown products to those choices and we had already gone down by about £600 in price!! We chose the photograph we liked along with the frame and it was projected to size on the wall in that frame so that we could see just what it would be like!
The finance option was explained to us - and it worked out about as much as a packet of cigs a week, I don't smoke but I wanted that photograph so spent my money on something good!
We were told that the photograph would be worked on in more detail - doing touch ups etc and then sent off to their own lab - I'm sure the cheaper places just go to a photo processing shop like anyone else - where they print and frame everything there. I'm sure that having a Venture lab isn't cheap - again think of the price, all make sense really.
The downside is is that they don't home deliver, but only because they do their own inspection on it before letting us get our hands on it!
I got a pair of shoes on line and collected it in store, only to then get home and find a fault with them, but that is for another review site!!
Everyone that comes in our front room just love our Venture, it sums us up and will be up forever.
My advice is ask them a lot of questions and if they are open and honest and don't bite your hand off, then do it. Shop around to find the best studio - I know some are far and wide but could make all the difference!
We were in the local GAP store a couple weeks back, and the Venture Vultures were sweeping all the families with kids up for the classic 20 quid portrait before the big hit later for hundreds or thousands.
Stand and watch ther operation for 10 minutes, you can see it all coming. It is vital to know up front, what the cost is and in my experience that is the last thing they want you to know at the start. If you knew, you'd walk out straight away.
Me and my partner have got in to producing original paintings, (yes, real brushes and so on), reaslistic price and the product which is a zillion time more personal and of course, it is an original.
We tell you upfront a 80x80 cm sq original with two heads (mother and son for example) will cost 375 or 600 or 2000. We know people have budgets but we still want to produce excellence, most canvas for simpler projects we are doing for 300 at the moment and people love it. The painting will be in the family for 100's of years very probably, so it is real value.
The Venture way is a few bubbles, a cuddly toy, a burst of impresive camera flash and hey ho little Johnnie is a star - for 10 seconds until the next kid is shoved in front of the lens.
On google search marina skaya art if you are interested in an honest and brilliant alternative.
Call us if you want a chat about it and how its achieved.
I purchased the groupon offer to get a 10 x 8 framed print. Originally I had booked the session for just my husband and myself but we got a new puppy just before the date of our appointment so we were than able to take our new puppy too. We arrived 20 min early and were offered tea / coffee. After 20 min of waiting our wee puppy and my husband became restless and we ended up waiting a further 20 min. Eventually we were shown through to the studio and I can not fault the photographer, the photo session was really good fun.
I received a phone call the next day to arrange our viewing and a further phone call the evening before the viewing to confirm. After reading reviews online I was prepared for a hard sell at the viewing but there was none. We where shown some alternative options for multiple pictures but we chose the one we wanted and stuck with our choice. I was very impressed with the photos and there where at least 14 really awesome shots to choose from. The Glasgow studio was very profesional. Expect to pay a lot of money for larger prints.
Last Christmas my mother in law got us a shoot with Venture Studios which included a free photo.
We booked it for the end of February and all of us went. Myself, my partner, daughter, mother and father in law and brother in law.
When we got there, we walked in and was offered a drink. We had the choice of tea, coffee, orange, lemonade or coke. I thought the choices were brilliant! I chose to have a cup of tea and we waiting in the front for our session to start.
When we walked in, the walls were white, the floor was white with a sofa at one end and a dressing table for us to get ourselves sorted out. We had brought our own props with us as the shoot was mainly for our daughter. My mother in law really wanted to get some big frames for her house to fill the walls so she had some ideas of what she wanted to get. (We could soon see it wasn't our Christmas present any more). The photographer was wonderful. She knew what poses and positions to put us all in and after a while we told her we wanted to do our own thing and she was fine with that too. I felt at first the poses she was using were very generic and something she must have used on every family coming through into the studios and we wanted it to be much different.
We then got our props out. Bubbles, glitter poppers, balloons and a football.
The photographer must have had the best shoot with our daughter. She pulled down a pink background screen and got my daughter ( just coming up to 2 at the time) to sit on a stool and we would blow bubbles around her. We were in the studio for around 50 minutes so we managed to get lots and lots of lovely photos.
When we finished, we were told to come back a week later to view our photos.
The week came around very quickly and i went to view them with my mother in law and father in law while my partner stayed with our daughter at home.
We were again offered a drink which we asked for tea again. We were then taken to a room to view our photos from a projector on the wall. They make a slideshow with music in the background for you to see them. They take the best ones they think you will like and edit those for you to use.
We loved all the photos that were taken and i really could choose what we wanted as our free print.
I knew my partner would be happy with whatever choice i chose as we couldn't afford to buy any for ourselves. I chose to have a photo of our daughter on the pink background. It is such a beautiful photo of her and the photographer said to us we should put her in for children's modelling as her skin and face is very beautiful. We took it as a very big compliment!
My mother in law wanted to get 3 big frame photos and they were doing an offer of 3 for the price of 2.
They got a very large print of our daughter (their granddaughter), a collage of photos in a frame and a long and thin photo of them and our daughter. They spent £2,500 on those three large frames. They are approximated 40x60". I really do think that they charge way too much for the prints and frames. They are excellent quality, but if paying £2,500 for 3 prints and one of them was free so your in effect paying £2,500 for two, it is rather a lot to pay. They also have an offer of having 15 photos on a memory stick for £300 but you can only print them up to size a4 which isn't good value for money at all.
I would definitely do it all over again but still only get my free print. You can pay monthly for your items if you did want to buy them and they offer lots of different deals to help you spread the cost out.
The frame and photo we got was around 10x8 which retailed at £99. People must be mad to think that's a good price to pay. The frame is plain black and is very nice but the photo inside is possibly costing you the whole £99.
I would definitely recommend this place for family photography and getting some good pieces for your home, but the prices are very top end of anyone's budget. The best time to get a shoot is at Christmas time when you can get a deal for around £20 for the shoot and the photo saving you a lot of money.
I think it is rather embarrassing to go into the view your photos and only come out with the free one like I did, but i think I'd have been more embarrassed seeing my card get declined! They don't pressure you into buying anything, so it's worth going just for your free print if like us, cannot afford between £100-£3,000 for a photograph!
I had a voucher to use at venture, wish I hadn't bothered. I can't fault the lady who took the pictures she did a brilliant job. When you go and look at the pictures they really do put the sale pitch on thick. They have pound signs in their eyes. They don't expect you to say no to a standard picture size that costs over £100. I can't believe how expensive they are. You could spend over 2 thousand pounds. If they made it a lot cheaper it would be worth it but they need to bring the cost down by over half.Stay away from them, don't get ripped off.
for a suprise my children decided to get a voucher have a photo shoot and present me with a beautiful portrait of all my kids for my birthday.
We were then asked to go in and choose the photos that we wanted, this took over an hour, by this time I knew what was coming for them, they completely rely on you not wanting to say no to the pictures they have taken of your family, and prey on that fact. The £25.00 voucher that my kids had got ended up costing us over £1000.00, total rip off merchants, I would imagine that nobody refuses so the £25.00 voucher is a sell and a win win situation for them either way. I would not recommend this company to anybody, my advise would be to stay clear of them, hard sell is not the word, praying on your emotional attachment to the pictures they have taken is more like it. I was told we would get a USB with 15 pictures on that we could put on any computer and as many computers as we wish, NOT TRUE!!!!!, you can only view them on the USB given and cannot put onto any other computer, another LIE!!!!, so all in all a complete RIP OFF, and I will tell everyone else that as well. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!! There are many good local photographers to use these days, you dont have to go to some rip off Franchise.
As in many of the other reviews, we also used a voucher for a photo shoot and small framed picture for 25 GBP.
The shoot itself was good, relaxed and fun. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We have not yet seen the actual photos as are preview date is not till next week, so I can't comment on the quality of the pictures.
However the fun stopped after the one hour photo shoot when we were handed a brochure with the pricelist. I almost still feel in shock a few days later! The prices are extortionate. I fully appreciate that there are high costs involved and professional equipment and photographers do not come cheaply, however I can't understand how anyone can justify such high prices. It is such a shame, as I am sure that we would have been interested in purchasing a few pictures but cannot justify spending such ridiculous amounts of money, especially on one picture!
Our pricelist states that the cheapest and smallest available 6" x 6" picture is 325 GBP, a larger picture at 20" x 20" costs an unbelievable 1245 GBP and if you would like a large picture made up of 9 photos its an unbelievable 3545 GBP. (Prices according to my April 2011 pricelist)
Surely there must be some fantastic professional photographers out there who take grate contemporary pictures at a fraction of the price.
The whole experience is such a shame, as I feel I have wasted both the photographers and my time.
I would definitely not recommend Venture as it is an experience that can almost only end up disappointing.
Hello,To anyone who is considering a photo shoot with venture... BEWARE!!! If you are willing to pay between £255 up to £2500.00 then fine do it. Me and my family got a voucher of £25 for the photoshoot and a free 7 x5 photo. We all had a brill 1 hour photo shoot done, then reality kicks in we then give u a price guide. You are then told to come back another day to view your photos, We gave a deposit of £100 for one of there photos, we changed our minds the next day and phoned them, now they are trying to stop giving us the money back, it has been 2 weeks now and its so frustrating. They are now saying there we are going to get charged an admin fee.
Venture photography or the whole venture experience as they call it is an up market photography studio selling pieces of artwork (again their sales pitch) ready framed in unique frames and layouts.
Initially you will go for a photoshoot which they claim to last one hour but in my experience it was a bit shorter. They tend to sell these shoots for about £25 however we won the voucher for the shoot along with a complimentary framed photo of our choice sized 7x5. This low cost shoot price and the freebie is to get you into their studio and then be bowled over by the pics at the preview. I have won 2 shoots within about 3 months entering twice so as you can tell they pull people in where possible. They are quite pushy getting you to arrange you a photo session and pestered me a lot until i set a date. They will take a credit/debit card number to secure your place and charge you £25 if you fail to attend or give less than 5 days notice to cancel.
The shoots take place in a purpose designed studio with a professional photographer who gets photos supposedly unique to you in that you take personal belongings with you. For kids for example their favourite toys or comforters. Following the shoot they will book you into you preview normally about a week later.
The preview is the hard part in every possible way. If you are only after the freebie it is hard not to get drawn in to the hard sell and seeing these beautiful pictures of your family and walking away from them apart from the one you will struggle to choose. If you are purchasing one of the expensive pieces again you will have to make a huge decision of which to choose and what product to frame it in.
They are good photos and they will edit them, i remember the first time i went i had a huge spot on my chin and at the preview you didnt see it as the had edited it out. But similarly the first time we went we didnt know what to expect least of all the high prices and were very down afterwards walking away from these pics as they were lovely. This time knowing my heart strings would be well and truly tugged i was prepared so it was much easier.
I hope this review of my experiences there will help prepare some one else on what to expect at venture!
There are a lot of comments on here saying that Venture is not cheap and I would agree with them. However my experience is that the pictures are amazing and you get what you pay for.
We bought one of the £25 vouchers for an hours photography and a small photo. This is clearly a loss leader to get you into their Studio to try and sell you some more product, and it worked.
We had great service in booking our session and we went along for our shoot. It was great fun and the photographer captured us in many different situations. We had some taken with Venture's white background and some against a black background. The photographer took us all together and the children individually. Clearly, if they are good, you will be very tempted to have more than the one small free photo.
We booked our viewing for the following week. The photo's were projected onto a wall and were really very good. In fact the best family photo's we have seen. The photographer who showed us our pictures was not pushy, she gave good advice but let us make our own mind up. So what did we do? We could have had our small free one, but we bought some more.
Yes, we ended up spending nearly £1,000. Are they expensive, yes. Are they worth it, we have to say yes as they are so good. We will have them on our wall for a long time and all our friends are amazed at the quality of the product and the photography.
Would we go again? Not for a while, but probably again in a few years. We know what we are getting into and are very pleased with the result.
No, Venture do not provide a complete photography service and a range of products for £25. Yes, the £25 voucher was a loss leader to get us into the Studio. Yes, we spent more than we expected, but the result was worth it.
If you go to Venture do not expect to come away without spending money - unless you have nerves of steel and can stick to the small free one, in which case you will have had a great value experience.
PLease pLEASE just STAY AWAY -
