Well i had been hankering for one of these since before my daughter was even born. They start at 6months and this particular one lasts until they are 3 years old.
It is a clever little machine that knows where you are on each page by the pressing of the green go button and the use of a cartridge which plugs into the top of the unit. Each time you turn the page you press the 'GO' button and then there are lots of pictures for baby to touch and each one will have sounds or music or a song to listen to. Tell them the story or just listen to exciting melodies that are sure to keep you and baby entertained for some time.
There are 3 different levels for your child and an age guideline so you know which level to chose to suit your childs abilities.
Setting 1: Sparkling musical rhythms and sound (6months)
Setting 2: Short descriptive phrases (18months)
Setting 3: Fun filled rhymes and early learning interactions (36months)
There are a few different leappad books for this unit and each one will introduce your baby to something new, they cost approximately £10 each. I got mine from Woolworths at £9.99 and the unit was £19.99 - cheapest i have seen.
Some of the titles are:
Guess how much i love you; which will expose your child to a variety of musical rhymthms sounds and words, helping increase your babys future reading and language skills.
Animal Dance; which introduces motor skills, rhythm and animals. Your child can do the actions along with the animals, helping them gain confidence.
One bear in the bedroom; introduces numbers, counting, shapes and animals. The mathematics involved helps baby understand shapes.
A-Z adventure; Follow the cute caterpillar through the A-Z, your little one will link each letter to its name and sound in time.
And they are bringing new books out all the time.
With each book you recieve an independant learning page, this may be a piano for baby to press, or musical instruments to listen to, or a grouping game. The books are value for money and will last a long time. The only drawback to them is books are just paper pages - no lamination, and since my daughter is at her mouth exploration stage i have to fight with her so she doesnt rip the pages or eat them. But we do play from time to time, I just make sure that the book is out of her reach and lay her on her tummy.
These units used to be £30 and i was a little reluctant to buy one as i didnt know how much use he would get from it, but i have played with the thing myself and found it to be very enjoyable! when i saw this in woolies at the current price i knew i just had to have one!
Thank you for reading my review. I hope it has been some use to anyone thinking of purchasing one of these.
Xxxx
Summary: A must have excellent toy for learning.x
