Advantages: good range of foods
Disadvantages: expensive
Waitrose is really a pleasant place to shop.
They have a reputation for being more expensive than Tesco, but personally I do not see a great difference, particularly when you take the good quality of Waitrose products into consideration.
I visit more often the Waitrose close to my office, but I also go to the one which is not far from my home address. Both of them are very well kept, and the items on display are all of good quality.
There are not many things I like about Waitrose but I think I am biased because I feel they overcharge for everything compared with other high stree supermarkets such as asda tesco sainsburys etc Its like shopping in M & S food hall to me but on many occasions left with a larger bill even than there
On the plus side however they do tend to have a large selection of what tend to be hard to find type produce especially that from the european market I have found though that there are more and more foreign type corner shops specialising in european type foods a local example to me being a Polish grocers selling mainly polish foods fresh and otherwise ( ie tinned rather than past the sell by date !) These speciality stores being so much cheaper and with a variety of foods albeit more difficult to find and not always local
Waitrose seem to reduce foods frequently and I beleive that this is due to their policies on freshness and quality although larder items such as tins etc do not tend to be reduced so readily
The reductions also tend to be small rather than 25% or 50% off as in tescos for example
Another thing is the fact that there are no own label products so it is not possible to economise by choosing own brand products
Opening hours tend to be not as good as tesco and others also although I must admit that the stores are always clean tidy and staff seem to have been trained in politeness and niceness which can only be a bonus
Higher class shopping if you ask me at a higher price
Summary: high class supermarket high class prices
