Advantages: Gorgeous selection, perfect for foodies
Disadvantages: Not for you if you're counting the calories - or the pennies.
Which seemed to care... Oh OK, maybe I'm getting carried away. But then Waitrose has always had that effect on me. Yes it's more expensive than the average supermarket but it has so many lovely things about it. 1. It's part of John Lewis, so the staff aren't called staff, they're called 'partners' - and I think that might be why the assistants seem to make an extra effort to help you! 2. The bakery section - not to be visited by anyone who believes in the Hip and Thigh diet. The beautiful breads, perfect patisserie and cake creations are irresistible. 3. The cheese. Wallace and Gromit would be in their element. Every variety you could want is here, with a nice man (or woman) to offer you free samples before you choose your cheese. 4. Bacon sandwiches. And I'm a vegetarian! But some of their stores do fresh bacon sarnies in ciabatta and I have no idea how they make money out of it cos they stuff about half a pig in there. Once I went to order loads for people at work, and they instantly drafted in staff (sorry, partners) from all over the store to create a production line. 5. waitrose.com and waitrose@work. See the online section. Then there's the wine, the chocolate and the delicatessen. But you get the message. And they all lived happily ever after...
