Advantages: Tonnes of choice
Disadvantages: pricey
We go into town once a week because my husband has an addiction to Pic N Mix sweets. There is a little place in the centre of town that do them quite cheap. On our weekly trip in we often stop off in Waterstone's. My hubby is a huge book fanatic and isn't happy unless he has a good story on the go so I know the shop like the back of my hand more or less.
The thing I love about the place is that it's well organised. You don't have to do much searching to find the category you are looking for. Each shelf is labelled and the books are in alphabetical order. I don't often find that a book is out of place and if you eally can't find what you are looking for then there is always plenty of staff around that can help. They area always really helpful and know alot about the books. They are always really happy to order you in books aswell.
Another great thing about our local Waterstone's is that all of the new ooks have a little description infront of them telling the prospective buyer what it was like and how enjoyble it was. These are written by the staff members who have actually read the book so it really helps me when I'm looking for something new to read.
The childrens section is fantastic. It's very bright and colourful and has little chairs for the children to park them bums. Whenever we go in there I always do my thing but promise my boy that I will take him over there if he behaves. It works a treat! Again everything is well organised. The books start with baby books and go right up through to the teenage section.
As you make your way to the back of the shop your senses start tingling and there is a lovely aroma of coffee in the air. When you turn the corner you will see a little Costa cafe. I think this is a great idea because you can buy your book then sit and have a coffee and start to read it. I have a friend who lives in Americ and she was always telling me about this little bookshop where her and her hubby go to read and have a coffee so maybe it's an american idea.
I find that the staff really don't mind if you want to sit and have a read of a book. When I've been in other bookshops I feel on edge even before I've opened the cover because the staff are looking at me sternly but they really don't seem to care at all. This is great for me and my hubby because if we are going to shell out full price for a book then I need to know that its right. Which leads me on to my next point.
Waterstone's is quite expensive. Even though we go in there most weeks we very rarely buy a book. I usually order online because it's alot cheaper. There have been occasions where I haven't been organised and I've had to buy from here but I wouldn't do it ver often. Having said that they have lots of 3 for 2 offers which work out at quite a good price.
Over all I think Waterstone's is the master of all book shops and it's definately worth taking a look.
Summary: A nice place to hang out and find a nice read.
