Advantages: Extremely helpful staff
Disadvantages: None for me
Although i dont buy books in shops very often, i pretty much only go to Waterstones when i do. Shop prices are always higher than internet sites so i wont hold their prices against them. I know what im getting into when i go in there.
The shop is laid out very well and easy to find your way around. If there's something you cant find though, the staff are always more than willing to help you and if they dont have what you're looking for, they'll look it up on the computer and offer to order it in for you.
My local shop has big, comfy armchairs all over so you can chill out and start a book to find out if you want it or not. Also a great thing for anyone shopping with kids. Shame it doesnt have a starbucks though like some shops do.
Waterstones have some good offers on too like 3 for 2 on best sellers etc. This normally makes books work out about the same price as online and generally the only time ill buy anything from a real book shop.
One of the main things i like about Waterstones is the staff suggestions. There are little cards next to books all over the place with the staff's personal recommendations on them. Sometimes when you dont really know what kind of book you want these are really helpful and ive bought these quite a few times now.
Summary: Great place to pick up a book if you dont want to wait
