Advantages: Good products, friendly and helpful staff
Disadvantages: None that I've found
Wickes is a large DIY store. It stocks everything from odd bits like door handles, paint, light fittings and screws to kitchen and bathroom suites.
It is the best place in our area for getting the best balance between cheap vs. quality, and as such a lot of small businesses in our area use Wickes for purchasing materials.
I have been to Wickes many times as I love DIY and am always redoing the house. I have to say that most of the staff are pretty friendly, although you always get the odd idiot wherever you go!
There are normally various leaflets and booklets near the entrance that guide you through some DIY jobs. I have found these quite helpful and usually grab a couple just to see if the project is something I could achieve (I love to give it a go but I know my limits, lol!).
I have bought quite a few bits from there and everything has been of good quality and hardwearing. I did buy some laminate a couple of years ago anda few of the boards were damaged at the edges. I took them back the next day and the staff apologised and offered me an exchange or refund. As I had carried on and already finished the job, they were left over boards so I got the refund - bonus!
I have also bought things online. Everything has been delivered very quickly and the delivery people are very nice - they'll even carry your stuff to the room you want them in if you flutter your eyelashes at them, lol!
Wickes do email you from time to time and send you offers available online that you cannot get in store. They can have offers on certain items or maybe 10% off; so it is worth signing up, especially if you are planning on a big project.
All in all, I would highly recommend Wickes. I have bought a lot of things from them and have never had any problems, with them, or their products.
Summary: Well worth a visit!
