Advantages: reasonable price
Disadvantages: no keys
We are now the proud owners of a wicks Georgian garage door. It cost us £214 our builder bought it on his account there, I am not sure if the price took into account his discount or not. I have tried checking it out on the wicks website but wicks are developing that area so very little info on it. I t is similar if not the same as the one on the B&Q web site. Garage doors can be expensive but we opted for a fairly cheap option as we are running out of money and this door looks fine. Secure and reasonably smart. We did have a little problem buying our door. We looked in one wicks shop yes they had the door fine, but when it was at the till we discovered it had no key or lock, (these come attached in a plastic bag to be fitted into the door at home by customer) they looked at another door. No keys, no keys in the storeroom so garage door was useless. We phoned one other wicks err no lock and no key there, At the next wicks yes they said they had a Georgian garage door with a key, so husband and builder went to fetch the door………………R 30;…………& #8230;……………… 8230;………̷ 0;………………… ;. When they arrived eeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrr no lock and no key. Wicks phoned another fairly local Wicks and yes they had a door with a key so fourth time lucky we had a new door with a key. My husband said why do you no have keys we were told its because people nick them!! Apparently keys are attached to garage doors on the shop floor. A lot of people if they have lost their keys to their garage wander in to wicks detach the locks and leys which are in a plastic bag attached to garage door by sticky tape and they discretely remove them from the shop, no payment passes hands. Why do Wicks not keep the locks and keys in stock room? Our builder and my husband fetched our door fo
r us but we could have arranged delivered I am not sure if there is a charge for this service. But it would have been a few days before delivery anyway. Our garage door is a steel door painted white it is treated with an anti corrosion treatment it has 9 deep pressed panels indented into the door. Similar ones are sold by b&q. I have seen the same or similar adorning many a garage The doorframe to fit the garage had to be purchased separately and fitted. Our builder fitted a wooden one. I think it took 2 men to fit the door into the frame and fit the door lifting mechanism. It was finished in a day before I got home from work It is a good snug fit my key opens it and I push the door and it opens upwards .It is a good smooth opening, the door is not heavy easy to open. And when shut it shuts easily and snugly I am glad we now have a garage door as it means I can remove the contents of the garage from my spare bedroom. Thanks for reading another episode of our new extension build Yours Mary
