Advantages: Prices, range
Disadvantages: Shop decor
When I lived up north there were no Wilkos nearby, and I'd never even really heard of it until I moved to Nottingham and there were 2 fairly close by. Now where I live down south, there's one in the town centre.
Wilkos is a large shop that sells everything from food to cleaning supplies to garden furniture to paint. It's also universally cheap; there are many things cheaper than the pound shop or 99p shop here - okay, only about 10p pence or so difference, but that can soon add up. I bought my paint from there whilst I was decorating my house. I had the choice of Wilkos own brand or Dulux, both at good prices. I ended up painting my bathroom a lovely blue and having half a tin left over. Best of all, the paint is moisture resistant and is lasting really wel - only needed two coats. I was really pleased with that.
I've also bought toiletries, food and storage things from there and been really pleased with them all. Some stuff is a bit cheap looking, like the toys, but they are good value for money.
One thing I don't like about it - and this doesn't really matter - is the decor. The cream and red looks a bit old fashioned and dingy, and it has, well, a sort of 'cheap' feel and smell to the shop itself. Still, I guess they've got to save money somewhere!
Summary: One of my favourite cheap shops
