Advantages: The sensible staff , the reasonable prices
Disadvantages: The stores can be a bit old fashioned looking
I live near a rather large branch of Wilkinson (Wolverhampton). My daughter lives near and even bigger branch (Plymouth), so I have had plenty of opportunity to sample all of their wares.
Wilkinson's does not appear to have a limit to the range of things it sells. if people want it (sometimes even if they don't) Wilkinson's sells it. They sell all sorts of weird products advertised on the TV. You know the ones that assure you they'll change your life, so you waste a tenner (£9.99) on it use it twice, wait for the miracle to happen, then consign it to the pile labeled "Car Boot"
Wilkinson's also sell a whole host of useful things from cheap toys for pass the parcel, to paint and wallpaper. They sell from photograph framing to craft supplies. Get your medicines and cleaning products, hairpins and sewing kits, ironing boards and bin liners, in fact the only things you can't buy are food (unless you count chocolate...) and large items of furniture.Oh! and the latest Gucci bag.
One of the advantages of going into Wilkinson's is their staff. I don't know how they manage it, but they always seem to employ sensible staff. They seem to be normal human beings who could live next door to you. The don't seem to have the "it's more than my jobsworth" to crack a joke or pacify a fractious toddler in the check- out queue. It must be said it can be quite a long queue.
The other good thing about Wilkinson's is the prices, people on a tight budget have known about Wilkinson's for years. Now everyone else will find out. Cheaper than the supermarkets with special offers.
Summary: Head to Wilkinson's if you are on a tight budget
