Advantages: Wide range & good offers, good seasonal promotions
Disadvantages: Larger/more expensive items may be bought cheaper elsewhere, especially at Christmas
If you want a store with a bit of product variety, whether you're looking for CDs, snacks, kids clothing, houseware or toys, Woolworths is always worth a try. I'm a fan of this shop for a browse around because there's always some good offers on and a range of items on the shelves.
The Woolworhts company have been around for a while now and have increasingly grown in popularity, expanding its number of highstreet & out-of-town stores to around 820. Woolworths gets a lot of press in newspapers and television, with adverts around Christmas being the best example. It's probably a good idea to keep your children away from TV for a few months up until christmas and not let them see the inserts in the papers, because there's so much in the way of costly games and gadgets out now that kids want to get their mits on. Woolworths is a great place to start looking for toys and games as they often stock a range of traditional style boardgames etc, but also have the latest releases. Do note that it's still worth shopping around, especially near Christmas when shops are in constant competition with each other, as it's likely you'll find better console deals elsewhere.
Woolworths sells a range of products, including:
* CDs, DVDs & Video Games
* Games Consoles
* Books
* Mobile Phones
* Electrical Goods - such as toasters, kettles, TVs, SatNavs, * Laptops etc
* Toys - a good range of traditional toys, smaller items, crafts, popular childrens character products, outdoor toys, action figures, dolls etc
* Stationary - standard pens,paper,file and so on, both brand names and a value range to offer a cheaper alternative
* Party - A collection of cards, wrapping paper and party accessories
* Gifts & Flowers - there's usually a much better range of gifts around certain times of the year, such as mother's day & easter
* Home & Furniture - General products for your home like bulbs, cutlery, bins & mugs, and there's usually a range of smaller items such as sewing equiptment. Larger stores have some furniture, though these are probably best found on their website.
* Garden & DIY
* Baby & Dress Up - includes a good range of Ladybird children's clothing which seems to be reasonably priced
The prices in Woolworths tend to be reasonable on the whole and the offers they often have can be good times to grab some bargains. Like I said, it's still good to shop around on larger/more expencive items, especially at peak periods.
Some Value range and Woolworths own make products are offered as cheaper alternatives, ie. their own sweets and stationary, and I find these to generally be fairly good quality.
It depends on the size of your store as to how much range you get. My local is only one floor and medium-sized, so it's a bit limited. There are other larger outlets though than span over 2/3 large floors and give you a great variety of products. I can usually get what I'm looking for in Woolworths, but typically if I go with something extra special in mind that I've seen advertised they wont have it in my local store.
If you can't find what you're looking for, staff are usually keen to help. I'm not saying they're always that useful at finding what you want, but at least I've usually had polite and friendly service which is good.
They've just released a Christmas Book you'll be glad to know, so you can flick through the glossy pages a few months early and worry at how much Christmas is going to cost you this year. They do have quite good seasonal selections though, for example at the moment they have a range of Halloween goodies and nice displays :o)
Summary: A good highstreet store worth a mooch around :o)
