Advantages: a great store that sold everything
Disadvantages: so sad to see it go
When I heard Woolworths was going into administration I was shocked. I remember the days when Woolworths were seen up every high street big and small. Every city and town had a Woolworths store and even some villlages had a store. We have also heard this week that MFI and PC World are going into administration and I can't believe it. we have heard so much about the 'credit crunch' but it would seem that stores such as Woolworths who charge reasonable prices for good and fairly price their items have suffered the consequences. I also think its a shame that I am writing this review now after the news, in fact I have seen many reviews on the store over the last few days and they all seem positive - who knows maybe we'll see a Facebook group dedicated to the store.
The Store
-------------
My local store (Plymouth) is always very well organised with well stocked shelves. As you walk in the main entrance the seasonal goods are usually occupying the first 5 shelves. making it easy to purchase what you need. This time of year however the store is full of Christmas stuff. Recently HobbyCraft have moved into the store and are occupying about a 5th of the store. The store also stocks a selection of cards, wrapping paper and party goods. I find that Woolworths have an excellent DVD and CD collection and I will usually visit Woolworths before I go anywhere else as I know that I will get good value for money. In addition to CDs, DVDs and games I find that Woolworths are excellent for stationary and confectionery. I think that Woolworths are great for summer items and this year we purchased all our garden furniture and a gazebo from Woolworths. The store at Plymouth is clean and tidy and the aisle are large enough for a few people. I do find however that due to the central position and the fact that the store links one part of town with another many people use it as a thoroughfare and when it is raining outside it can get a little slippery.
Staff
-------
I have always found the staff in Woolworths very helpful, if I have ever needed an item that I cannot find in store I will ask and the staff are very helpful. When purchasing goods the staff will try and communicate and are very polite. I am often asked how my day was or how I am, it's nice that some shop staff do still talk rather than push items through a checkout.
Restaurant
-------------
The Plymouth store has a lovely restaurant upstairs. I have eaten in Woolworths a few times and the food is always fresh and tasty. In fact a meal in Woolworths is affordable and often works out to be cheaper than a fast food restaurant. The last time I visited Woolworths I bought lasagne with a portion of chips a hot chocolate and a cake for less than £5 and it was very filling. My mate who has a baby managed to warm the bottle and change the nappy at the end. The toilets are only open to cafe users and have weird UV lights to prevent drug taking but thats more a sign of the times than the location of the store.
Returns and refund policy
---------------------------------
I have been shopping at Woolworths for years and if I have ever had a problem with an item or if I have purchsed the wrong item I have been able to exchange or return the item with no problem. As long as I have a receipt I am able to exchange and return and unwanted item. Woolworths are also very understanding at Christmas time with allowing gifts to be returned.
Overall Woolworths is a great store and I for one will be disappointed to see it close. I can't understand how they have lost so much money as it is always full when I shop in there. maybe teh internet has taken so much custom - anyway on a brighter note the sales will be good!
Summary: A great shop recognised everywhere - will be missed
