Advantages: Nice clothes, reasonable prices.

Disadvantages: Lazy staff & unhelpful staff.

Zara-Birmingham bullring. Nice clothes but terrible staff who appear to do their best to prevent you actually buying clothes.
After spending nearly an hour in the store, collecting a number of items i'd like to try on & carrying 2 cardigans i'd already tried on & wanted to buy i'd gone to the changing rooms. As is the case for most clothes stores
there's a limit to the number of items you're allowed to take in-No problem with that. But every other store i've ever shopped in will allow you to leave your excess items with the changing room attendant & switch items over so you're able to try on all the clothes while still adhering to their item limit rule. BUT in their infinite wisdom & backward sales approach-NOT ZARA bullring staff!
I'm told I can't take more than 6 items in (fair enough) but that 'we're not allowed to hold items'. Completely perplexed-I explained but i'm not asking to go out the shop to return later to collect, I simply want you to hold them for 1 minute so I can try them on after switching them with items already tried on. Their policy is you have to put the surplus number of items back out in the shop. Go back to changing rooms. try your first 6 items, get dressed, go back into the shop & try and find your other items (if they're still there of course!) go back to the changing rooms and try those on.

So basically i'd spent an hour looking through the store, putting together a number of items I was interested in only to have my time completely wasted by ridiculous sales staff who can not see how bizarre their rule is. I spoke to another member of staff who simply shrugged her shoulders & clearly didn't care. Frustrated, I then asked to speak with the manager-who basically reaffirmed the policy & couldn't see how illogical this rule was. Her only offering to help was to suggest a friend holds the remaining clothes while i'm trying on the initial 6. What a load of nonsense! I left all the clothes i'd intended on buying there. Walked out the shop and spent my money in Mango instead who seemed to be much more clued up in the customer service department.
I used to be a fan of Zara but after my experience I'll be spending my money in my other favourite stores-mango, mexx & jane norman.

I can only fathom this policy was designed to minimize the amount of work the staff have to do by reducing the number of items they need to place back in the store!

Moral of the story folks-NEVER SHOP ALONE IN ZARA Bullring. As the staff are clearly too lazy to do their job, they've decided to outsource customer responsibility to your friend! lol

Summary: Ridiculous shop policy

Do you know Jenny I actually thought of doing that. I tried to find some customer service address to write to but couldn't find one and found this instead. I actually felt so petty writing here even as nothing life changing has happened here but on the other hand felt so unbelievably annoyed at the stupidity of these people & the appalling way I was treated. I mean- by following their policy it could have been a much more lengthy-er policy than I've already indicated. The 2 cardigans would have had to have been bought 1st ( coz they can't hold them), then try on 6 items-anything i liked would have had to be bought coz 'they don't hold items' -then go back to shop to take further 6 items and so on... Gordon Bennett! I just wanted to spend some money & treat myself! Is that so hard!? I can't make much of an impact on Zara as an individual but then if we all just laid down and took such bad service we'd stand no chance as consumers. Thanks for the encouragement Jenny- I think i'll get the address from the manager of the store in question.

Our branch in Maidstone is great, the staff are really helpful.
