2001 Scrambler 500 (Polaris Scrambler 500)
Member Name: payvaa
Advantages: Sporty feel for recreation use, no shift, 2001 model reduced price Disadvantages: going downhill, mud for long distances, limited aftermarket hop-up
I recently bought a 2001 Scrambler 500 2x4. Read the reviews by many that said it wasn't a true sport machine (such as Z400, Ex400) and would never win a race with it, much less even enter. While that is true, I find it a great machine for my wife and myself. I don't race as those days have left me years ago. It is fun to drive (doesn't have the utility feel and handling) and I have even gotten my wife interested in the ATV thing. She doesn't like to shift, do the clutch, etc., so the Polaris 500 is just the ticket. I was concerned about the 2 wheel drive as I live in a mountain state (Utah) but I have found it to be reliable in the mud and going up mountains. I prefer it over my 4X4, except when it is very muddy for long distances as the fenders do not extend like a utility machine. Summary: |
