Frylight Sunflower Oil Spray
by vickijohn2012
I am on slimming world, so frying things in heaps of oil was no longer an option, neither was frying things in butter or margerine, so I decided I needed to find something else to fry things in as I feel that when you fry things with nothing in a non-stick pan they do not have the taste they do when they are fried. So off I went to do my ... weekly shop, I knew there would be something alternative that I could use so I just had to find it. I walked down the oil aisle and there it was "1 CAL SPRAY, SUNFLOWER OIL", and as I can always remember my gran using sunflower oil, this was the one I chose.
I picked it up that day at ASDA for £1.29, but that was only because it was on a special offer, I was quite lucky, although since then the bottle has also got smaller, cheeky cheeky fry light. Nowadays I pay £1.98 for the 190ml bottles from ASDA, £2.28 from Tesco and a whopping £2.30 from Sainsburys, so this is why I go to ASDA, as 30p does make the difference these days.
The bottle has a spray cap, which you press down, when you first use this it takes a couple of presses to get the oil moving but then it works perfectly. The bottle has pictures of sunflowers on the sides, and a yellow cap it is basically un-missable, the cap rather proudly sports the logo, "the only one cal spray" in large red lettering. The logo for fry light is the lettering, the fry is in large green letters and the light in smaller curly red writing. The bottle also has long diagonal yellow stripes across its body.
I use this spray for frying basically anything I cook, sometimes when a recipe says add 200 g butter, I add the equivalent in this oil as it binds the mixture together just as well as butter would. I find that this spray cooks bacon just as well as any regular fatty oil would, it tastes just as good if not better when not dowsed with oil. I do however find it hard to cook foods such as fried egg with this oil as I have to flick oil onto my egg to seal the yolk and this is impossible with fry light. I normally use about 3 or 4 squirts into my frying pan with fry light and start from there, it is essential for me now and I would never go back to the usual oil. Instead I have changed the way I eat eggs as I now poach my eggs and they taste even better.
Overall I would definitely recommend buying this product, it is a healthy alternative to most oils used for frying, and it gives more taste to cooking without oil in a non stick pan. One downfall is that the bottle is getting smaller and price is getting higher. Now that I have used this product I would definitely not go back, buy this oil if you are looking for a healthier way to fry your food which still tastes as good as deep fat fried foods do! Sarson's Vinegar
by xxfoxyredxx
When it comes to vinegar I only ever buy one brand of it these days and its this Sarsons one. I love the taste, the quality and the price of it and a while ago I did try to buy other far cheaper options of vinegar in places like Asda and in Tesco but it failed to delight me!
The Packaging:
The bottle is see through ... and glass with a dark red coloured flip top opening style lid to the top of it concealing a small hole. Around the bottle there is a matching in colour to the lid label and on that we are told that it is indeed Sarsons '1794' Malt Vinegar then on the back of that label we are told a bit about the product, the ingredients used, the size is stated which in this case is 250ml and contact details for the manufacturer are given. Its a nice and informative looking bottle this one and I do appreciate being able to see the liquid of the vinegar through the bottle so I know when it needs replacing and so on!
The Vinegar:
Within the bottle the liquid looks flat and is a very dark but still tranparent brown colour and if you open up the bottle and give it a sniff it has a slightly sweet and very sharp smell of malty vinegar to it. Taste wise, well of course it tastes like vinegar with a real barley and malt taste to it, its quite sharp and very tangy with a very natural and gentle sweetness to it.
When you shake it out of the bottle it goes on food light transparent brown, going to clear really on hot food, you can can smell its rich fragrance and you don't need much to really flavour food along with salt and/or pepper or whatever.
I love this rich tasting and flavoursome vinegar and for me the flavour of this cannot be beaten.
For a 250ml bottle of this I pay 49p in B & M but I know it is rather more expensive than this in most good supermarkets however I'd pay whatever the price really as its so good! Read the complete review |
