Don't Go Spare! Go To Buyspares.co.uk
Member Name: brittle1906
Advantages: A huge range of spare parts at sensible prices .
Disadvantages: Free delivery only if you spend £30 or more .
I first came across www.buyspares.co.uk a year or so ago. I was searching for a replacement knob for the cooker that was in situ when I bought my holiday home. I had contacted the manufacturer when I needed a new knob, only to be told that my particular model was long out of production and spares were no longer stocked. A quick visit to the 'wizard Google' (as the search engine is known in my family!), threw up www.buyspares.co.uk.
Lo and behold, I was able to source exactly the item I needed at a sensible price and delivered to my door.
To be honest, I forgot about the site until recently, my mother complained that her Dyson vacuum cleaner had started playing up. A quick look at the machine soon revealed that the drive belt had snapped. She had had the cleaner serviced around 10 months ago and parts and labour were insured under the terms of this, however on enquiring, I was informed that the belt was not covered under this. Typical!
I tried to buy a new one locally with no joy and checked out the Dyson website, where the price of the belts, plus delivery, seemed a little steep, so I thought I'd try www.buyspares.co.uk again.
The site had altered very little from my previous visit, a bold banner on the home page boasts that BuySpares is the UK's largest supplier of appliances spares and accessories, dealing with over 500 different brands names.
Although huge, the site is very well laid out and is user friendly. You are offered the choice of searching by manufacturer name, i.e., Dyson, Hotpoint, Panasonic, Zanussi etc. or by description, kitchen appliances, washers and dryers, cameras, gardening equipment and so on. I noticed most of the well known names on this site, along with quite a few I had never heard of!
Once you have established the make and model of the item you need spares for, it is an easy enough task to locate the product you require.
Luckily I knew the model name of the vacuum cleaner and was able to type this in and be taken straight to the relevant page where I had a choice of items in stock to choose from. The belt was in stock and available for a modest £3.05 for a twin pack! P&P had to be added and this was charged at £2.20, making a total of £5.25, still considerably cheaper than Dyson's site!
You can pay extra for next day delivery, which would be useful if you were waiting for a part for say a cooker or freezer. My choice was the standard delivery option.
Goods are sent by either Royal Mail or DHL.
Needless to say the belts were bought!
Just 48 hours later, my purchase arrived, very well packed in a sturdy brown card sleeve. A clear, well detailed invoice was included and a 'thank you' gift of a fridge magnet bearing buyspares logo and company contact information was also inside the package.
For the purposes of this review, I have had a little play around on the site and have managed to bring up spare parts for all manner of items in seconds. What is particularly interesting about this site is the D.I.Y. ease of fitting indicator pictured on each of the spare parts pages. This is a little semi circle with a spanner as an indicator, the further the spanner swings to the right, the more complicated the fitting procedure.
For those who do not wish to or cannot fit a spare themselves, the company also offer a fixed price repair service through 'Repaircare' and their network of over 500 qualified engineers. These cover Cooking, Laundry, Dishwashing, Refrigeration and Floor care appliances. It is simply a matter of making a telephone call to obtain a repair quote for your appliance.
As I have not used this service personally, obviously I cannot comment on the efficiency or value for money aspect of this branch of the company, but it certainly sounds a good idea to be able to source an engineer at the same time as buying a spare part.
Goods can be returned within 14 days providing they are in an unused condition and most goods are guaranteed for 12 months, there are a few exceptions to this rule, given the type of products sold, but the company do make it very clear regarding what is covered and what is not.
Payments accepted are Visa and Mastercard credit cards, Solo, Electron, Delta and Maestro debit cards. On line purchases can also be paid via Google checkout. This site does not accept Paypal currently. All prices quoted included V.A.T., so no nasty surprises there! The checkout and payment is process is simple and quick, just name and card details, delivery address and your email address.
Within moments of placing my order, an email payment conformation with an order tracking number, popped up in my in box.
The site has the secure site padlock logo, and has SSL encryption to safeguard customers details and payment information.
Obviously this review covers the website www.buyspares.co.uk which I would recommend to others.
Buyspares claim to have more than 40 years experience in the industry.
The actual company is based in Birmingham and they welcome those who prefer to telephone their orders, as well as online shoppers. I have not had need to use the telephone ordering service having ordered online on both occasions, nor have I used their customer service facility as my orders have been trouble-free, but it is nice to know that there is a customer service option available.
Should anyone prefer to place on order by phone the company have a call centre based in Birmingham, which they say is staffed by 200 sales agents. The telephone number is:- 0844 5575575
**My Thoughts and Conclusion**
Obviously you do need to know what it is you want before entering this site! It is not an appliance spare part diagnostic site, although there are useful tips and other information on the site. The sites advice centre carries lots of information and 'how to' directions. For example: how to load a dishwasher for optimal results and how to change metal blades on an electric lawn mower. I found it rather interesting to trawl through these and learned a few helpful hints on the way!
The amount of manufacturers listed on the site is impressive, as are the sheer number of parts that the company can supply. The sites boasts that they carry 1.5 million different spare parts at any one time!
I was also impressed at the www.buyspares.co.uk price promise. They guarantee that their prices are the best in the UK and promise that if you find any of their products cheaper on another UK based website then they will refund you the difference. They do state that the item has to be on a bone fide business website, not an auction based site, and that the lower price has to be reported within 7 days of your purchase, which seems fair enough to me.
I was pleased at the swift dispatch of my purchase and my purchased was very well packed.
I thought that the fridge magnet, albeit an advertising gimmick, was a nice touch too.
I also received a second email from the company to check that my goods had arrived satisfactorily.
An excellent example of customer service, which other companies would do well to follow.
The thrifty review readers may be interested to know that I accessed the buyspares site via a cash back site (www.topcashback.co.uk) and earned 10% cash back on the purchase, well, every little helps!
**A couple of negative niggles!**
Whilst I am very pleased with the bands purchased for Mum's Dyson, they are NOT genuine Dyson spares, they are compatible parts, produced by a different manufacturer. This does not bother me in the slightest and they are perfectly acceptable to me, however some customers may not appreciate this.
Also in retrospect, I suppose that £2.20 P&P for a very small item, is a little steep, however, delivery is free to those spending £30 or more.
If you know which spare part you want, then it is definitely worth looking at www.buyspares.co.uk.
I have used the site twice now and have been more than happy with the products I've bought, the actual site and the customer service received on both occasions.
I would give the site a 5* rating and can definitely recommend www.buyspares.co.uk to others.
Thank you for reading.
