Advantages: An opportunity to see big films without breaking the budget.

Disadvantages: None

Hurrah, it's the summer holidays - 6 or 7 weeks of bored teenagers and stressed parents desperate for the second week in September to arrive so that things can go back to normal!

And what's more, we have a typical British summer upon us - rain, rain and more rain, so outdoor activities (unless you are into puddle splashing) are restricted as "rain stops play".

Indoor activities, however, are expensive, and if you have a couple of children, or more, then you can soon require a second mortgage, just to cover the cost of visits to soft play areas, bowling alleys and cinemas.....and if you are kind enough to invite a friend of your child too, you are looking at a very expensive time indeed.

So thank goodness for Orange Wednesdays - the ability for anyone with an Orange mobile phone tarrif, whether pay as you go or contract, and anyone with Orange Broadband, to get two cinema tickets for the price of one on a Wednesday. For one day each week, you can send your child and a friend, or your children if you have more than one to the cinema. Of course if you want to go to, you can do so, knowing that you are effectively getting in for half price!

You do need to register in advance for the scheme - simply go to the Orange website at www.orange.co.uk and on the left hand side you will see a section for entertainment. Under that heading, is "film and Orange Wednesdays" and this is where you register your details, and specify a mobile phone for the scheme.

Then, when you are wanting to go to the cinema, just text the word "Film" to 241 on your mobile phone and you will receive a text message which is basically your ticket for a "buy one get one free" on Wednesday. When you get to the cinema, just choose the film you want to see, and go to the cashier, show the text from your phone and you will get two tickets for the price of one.

So, if you have two student tickets, you will pay for one. If you have two adult tickets, you will pay for one. If you have one full price and one concession, it is the cheaper one that is free.

This is a really good way of seeing films at a reasonable price. The cost of going to the cinema has gone up considerably in recent years and is no longer a cheap outing, especially if you then buy drinks and popcorn when you are there.

If you go on a Wednesday, using an Orange Wednesdays ticket, you can get to see the latest blockbuster for half price. Sneak in your own sweets from the supermarket, and your trip out is suddenly much more affordable.

My 13 year old son, for example, went to see Harry Potter, used his Orange Wednesday ticket with a friend, and split the cost of the trip, and it cost £2.60........now that's a price I don't mind paying, whereas £5.20 is the sort of figure that soon adds up to "how much??????".

It is worth knowing that you can take part in this with a pay as you go phone, so grab yourself a free simcard, top up with £5 credit from Orange, and register for Orange Wednesdays.....you will soon recoup the cost of the credit from the cinema savings you will make throughout the holidays!!

Summary: The offer is there for the taking - use it!

This is great! Though I often find myself missing out on it as there's not really a lot of films I would like to see most of the time.

I get so disgruntled and moany if we ever go to the cinema on any other day that my boyfriend usually ends up paying just to shut me up, which is sort of a good result! :D
