Advantages: no late fees, good value for money
Disadvantages: not getting new releases when they are released, not choosing what they send
Well i have got to say i am not a big fan of Tesco dvd rental.
Don't get me wrong, it is good value for money compared to renting movies/games at blockbuster @ £4.00 a time. And with no late fees aswell it is great for unorganised people amoung us like myself.
But if you are not sure how it works let me explain.............
It is simple enough to open an account and once you do you choose what package you would like for eg: you can have 1 dvd posted at a time or 2 or 3, for 1 it is around £7 a month for 2 it is £11, and for 3 £14.50 , you receive them by post, watchthem and them post them back, the quicker you can watch them and send them back the more films you will get a month, there is no limit to how many films you can watch a month but obviously taking into account the time it takes to post to you and the time it takes you to post it back, once they receive the film or films back they send out the next ones on your ist.
THE LIST: you basically make a rental list of all the films you wish to see, they recommend you have at least 30 titles on your list in case some of them are not available, you can rank the films as high priority, medium priority and low priority, the idea is they try to send out the high priority ones first.
The reason i don't like this system is, from my experience, i never got the new films untill months after they had come out, for example: you go to blockbuster the day a new film is released and chances are you can get a copy, now on your tesco dvd list you can put a dvd on your list 4 weeks before it is even released and you still do not get to see untill 6 weeks after it has come out........bascially you can't choose what films they send you it is just pot luck.
I had the 3 dvd's at a time package, was watching them over 2 days and sending them back, it takes a day to get back to them and then 2 days for them send the new ones, so i was probably getting 6 a week, now over a 4 week period that's 24 dvd's off my list i got just 3 high priority titles..........not impressed.
One argument against me could be that if i have say 50 titles on my list, they must all be films that i want to see so what does it matter which order you receive them.....but it does to me, i like to see a new film when it is released not 6 weeks after, and to be honest it is quite hard to find 50 titles you really want to see so you end up putting alot of stuff on their that you wouldn't mind seeing but are not too fussed about, but you put them on to build up your list and these are the ones you end up getting, i also put on alot of kids films on my list for my children but again rarely received new releases.
All in all this is good value for money, as i was getting 24 dvd's a month for £14.50, to get that at blockbuster would cost £96, but lets face it you wouldn't go to blockbuster and hire the films that are med priority or low priority..........I can see why this site would work for some people but for me i like to see new titles as soon as they are released.
Needless to say i cancelled my tesco dvd account.
My advice would be just to buy dvd's, they are so cheap these days, and plus you get to build up dvd collection and keep the films for ever......and if you buy any you don't like then flog them on ebay or trade them in at blockbuster for credit or cash.
Summary: Can see why it works for some people....but not for me!!!
