Advantages: Great selection, easy to use website, great welcome offers,
Disadvantages: Selection can be overwhelming, possible problems cancelling subscription
I got a 3 month free trial for this service, with a code I found on the moneysavingexpert.com website. A brilliant offer considering you can choose up to 3 rentals at a time, included in your free trial package.
The sign up process was quick and easy, though you do need to give your card details in order to access the free trial. Though I suppose it's fair enough.
You can search from around 56,000 titles, which includes many obscure and hard to find DVDs. There is a range of genres, and includes TV series (which they are careful to send you in the correct disc order) music, sport, world cinema, but doesn't have an adult category.
The site is easy to use and you can create a list of films you'd like to rent, including it's priority, so if they have it in stock you can be sure to have your favourite DVDs sent out to you sooner. You can also see a list of 'coming soon' releases which you can pre order.
After you have watched the DVD you can rate it out of 5 stars and leave a review, so other customers can see what you thought of it before they rent.
When you are sent DVDs they are posted first class, usually on the first day you sign up, or the day they receive your last rentals. The envelope they send the DVDs in also acts as a freepost return envelope, so you don't even have to pay for postage. They send you up to 3 discs in the same envelope, if they send more than 1 at a time they will include another return envelope so you don't have to send them all back at once.
I have received a cracked DVD, which I sent back as requested, placing a tick in a box on the outside of the envelope. They sent me an extra rental in return and there were no questions asked.
If you want to cancel before your free trial, or at any time after you have signed up, I recommend sending your last discs back at least a few days before the payment date, and obtaining a certificate of postage from the post office free of charge, as I know of people who have had problems with Lovefilm when cancelling their subscription. Tesco DVD rental is part of Lovefilm, as most of these companies are, so if you have had a free trial previously you won't be eligible. However if you have moved house AND changed your card details I believe you may be able to.
Overall a great service - fast, reliable and good value. The selection is great, a little overwhelming perhaps, but if you're stuck for something to watch you can easily find something on the website that you'd like.
Here is a breakdown of the different packages fees once the free trial has ended. Note that if you sign up from the site directly, you only get a 14 day free trial, but search around (moneysavingexpert.com is a good one for offers) you can get up to 3 months free, free gifts, or even money.
