Advantages: excellent service

Disadvantages: often have to wait a while to get sent new releases

I joined Tesco DVD rentals a couple of years ago as I saw an offer for 2 months free. It is based on the same premise as Lovefilm (and I think is actually the same company under a different name as the return envelopes were sometimes addressed Lovefilm rather than Tesco DVD).

When you sign up you go online and you can add as many DVDs as you want to your wishlist, it is recommended that you add at least 20 so there is less chance of you having to wait for things to come back in stock. You can rate these as high, medium or low priority and based on this and what is available a DVD and a return envelope will be posted out to you first class. You keep the DVD for as long as it takes you to watch it then put it in the return envelope. As it used first class post it means that as long as you have a good selection of DVDs on your wishlist you will get another DVD 2 days after you post back the one you have, so if you're very keen and organised you can watch 10 films a month on the 'one at a time, unlimited per month' package. This is a medium sized package which costs about £9 per month, you can also get smaller packages eg '3 per month' or larger packages eg '3 at at time, unlimited per month' this one means that you could have a new DVD to watch every night as long as the post is OK. You can reduce the cost of your package by paying for a few months in advance rather than one month at a time.

I was always really impressed with the service and the speed that DVDs were posted out, I did know someone who complained that they had to wait ages for their next film but I think they must have had very few or very popular films on their list, we always had a mixture of new releases and older or more offbeat titles and never waited long. We also never had an unwatchable DVD in the 18 months we were with them.

I'm not currently a customer of Tesco DVD rental only because after having a baby we don't really have the money or the time to watch the films!

Summary: I'd definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to watch a few films a month
