101cd.com is a lesser known online retailer competing with play.com for sale of cds, dvds, console games and books. They have a fairly wide range of items on sale, and they often offer the lowest prices around, with cds on sale for as little as £2 with free delivery. Unfortunately however they often claim to have items in stock when they are in fact not, meaning that you can sometimes have to wait weeks for your items, and their customer service is not particularly good, with slow responses to emails being the norm.
The site itself is amateurish and garish looking, exhuding none of the professionalism of larger retailers such as Play.com. It is at least fairly well organised however, with cds organised into genres (pop/metal/rock/R+B/Reggae/Soul etc) and dvds organised similarly, though dvd prices do vary and if you can find the items and the same or similar price on a bigger retailer such as play or amazon then i would recommend going with them instead.
Still, I have found 101cd.com to ultimately be a reliable (if slow) online retailer, and if you dont mind potentially waiting a while from your items then they are a great way to pick up items for extremely low prices online. Worth a look.
After using Froogle to find cheaper prices on Stuck Mojo albums I discovered 101cd.com. They were so much cheaper than everywhere else, so I ordered 3 Stuck Mojo albums from them. A few weeks later, I received my first album. I am still waiting for the remaining albums to be despatched. I have been waiting a month for them and the 'item on order with supplier' status hasn't changed. I have sent multiple emails to this company and haven't received any replies, so I don't know what stage my order is at. Do not shop at 101cd.com!
I was hunting for a CD (Kool and the Gangs Greatest Hits)last year and decided to use an online price checking service to see if I could find the CD cheaper than the usual sites I used, and the cheapest site that came up was 101cd.com
The site on first impressions looks tacky. It basically consists of a banner with the site name on top separated by yellow band with a search box underneath and the main part is filled with a list of cd/dvd covers and their titles.
The section menu on the left contains sections such as music, dvds region 1 and dvd region 2. If you click on one of these links that section expands so if you click on music you will get music listed by genre. The main window will change to display a selection of music cds covers and their titles.
You can then click on a genre to see selections from that category in the main window.
On the right hand site of the screen is an area which is orange and yellow which contains your shopping basket.
Underneath this section is a list of top selling CDs and DVDs.
I just put Kool and the Gang in the search box on the front page and clicked on go. I then clicked on the artist title when it appeared in the main screen and scrolled down the artists list of CDs until I found the album I wanted.
I then clicked buy and was taken to my shopping basket. I then paid for the item and recieved the customary email thanking me for my order.
This is an additional cost and varies due, the site claims, where the CDs are sourced from.
After 5 days a package appeared through my letter box which was the CD. I was pleased.
About a month later I decided to order more CDs from the site and repeated the same ordering process. What I found scary was the site had stored my details without me entering them and I hadn't signed into the site so I decided to clear my cookies on my computer.
Again the CDs I ordered appeared within 5 days.
Once 101cd.com get your email address they spam you every 2 days with a list of their current best selling CDs. I normally delete them as I haven't got round to removing myself of their mailing list.
A good site if you know what you want and what you want is not recent. However variable postage costs and those annoying marketing emails let the site down.
-postage not included in the price of CDs
-variable price postage
-varible delivery times but they state you should recieve the CD in 7 days
-not siging you out of the site automatically when you close your browser.
3 out of 5 site usability
2 out of 5 site colours
1 out of 5 for marketing
3 out of 5 for varying postage
5 out of 5 for getting older CDs cheaply
3 out of 5 for delivery
bought a dvd set from the series 24 ( it cost 83 pounds) the set arrived one month later and it was damaged before sending. I sent it back to 101cd.com ( 21 Euro shipping costs) and after a month it came back packed with soft carton that is usually used as filling paper. As you can guess it was damaged again. The edges of the diskset were dent.
101cd mailed me a standard mail, i could send it back to them for another diskset No thank you, not another 21 Euro shipping costs !!
Please do not trust this shop and don't buy there, you cannot call them on the phone and you get automaticly generated emails.
Feel free to contact me.
101CD.com is another website offering CDs, DVDs and games at quite low prices. Compared to its competition it often has very competitive prices and a large list of stock, but delivery fee fluctuations and customer service have been known to count against it. The main advantage 101CD over other websites is its large list of imported stock; a search for reasonably obscure bands will still result in a list of titles they can send from the UK, from Germany, from the USA and from Japan. Obviously they tend to get more expensive towards the bottom, but there can be bargains to be found through some of the imports. The website also accepts payments through the slightly devious organisation that is PayPal; this is good for me as it?s a way to get rid of PayPal I?ve massed through selling on eBay, but it also costs an extra £1 to pay through this method. Something I only found out after I?d made an order, so they seem a little loathe to advertise the fact. 101CD also have frequent sales, something they enjoy sending out in e-mail form if they have your e-mail address from a query, and although I?m not usually interested in the chart CDs they have on offer, they are at incredibly low prices. They also stock plenty of CDs at the budget price of £5.99 including some that are actually good, although my own purchase of Iron Maiden?s ?Best of the Beast? at this price is open to discussion. The customer service is friendly and prompt, but this is where most people seem to have had their trouble. Receiving an e-mail reply to a query at around 10 past twelve last night, long after office hours, it seems that this isn?t the highest budget of companies and are more prone to making mistakes than someone like Amazon. Thankfully the only time they have let me down has been failing t
o update some details until I prompted them, but there?s always the possibility. I will keep using 101CD for its low prices, extensive stock and PayPal options. I have discovered a similar website, Musica, which accepts PayPal for no extra charge, but which seems less professional. I suppose the more eager they are to promote PayPal, the worse the company is doing. I would recommend 101CD to anyone looking for CDs that are hard to come by, although there are many other, more reliable websites for most CDs, DVDs and games you may be interested in.
Interesting idea, huh? Naming an online music store after the room of all horrors from Orwells’ 1984. I bought some CDs from this site around 2 years ago, and have used it a few times since. It’s one of several sites I usually visit when I am thinking of buying a CD – the main plus for 101cd.com, I think, is that it has an excellent range. For music CD’s it’s one of the best – it compares well with amazon.co.uk and streets online. It’s far better than CDWOW, for range that is. Price is a different matter. At 101 you will find all kinds of collectors editions, imports and CD singles – often things that don’t seem that readily available on other online shopping sites. There is a very good selection of budget CDs - £4.99 and £5.99. If you’re trying to upgrade your vinyl collection to CD, or get some of the classics – this is the place. Usually there is a £1 postage charge for the first CD you buy, plus 50p for any subsequent ones. Another area where I think 101 scores highly, is with classical music – it has a much better range than any of the online sites I’ve seen. I know it’s sometimes difficult with classical finding exactly what you want, knowing whether it’s under composer, under artist, and so on, but I’ve had far more success on 101 than I have on amazon, for example. Delivery - it's best to allow 1 week for things to arrive. I've never had any problems with delivery. On one occasion something I had ordered had to be cancelled as it turned out to be unavailable, but I received an email notifying me of this very quickly. 101cd.com is not the cheapest way of buying CDs online, but they do often have some good reducions, and it's worth checking them out regularly. It is another alternative for some of those hard to find items, as well. 101cd.com
I have been using 101cd.com for 3 years now and can honestly say, I have 8/10 times been successful in getting the items I wanted. They sell CDs, DVDs and rare titles e.g. Vinyl?s that you just cannot locate anywhere else. I have now in total bought 30 items from this company and most have (with a few exceptions) been successfully sourced and delivered. Two or three titles (imports) have taken over 3 months to obtain. But they don't stock import titles in their warehouse. They get them from abroad and understandably; this will take time to locate. This delay may annoy most people, but to be honest I could not care less. Why? Because, the thing about this company is that they do NOT charge you for any orders you place until the items are ready to be shipped out to you! Hence, when I find a rare item for sale (and one I have unsuccessfully tried to locate elsewhere) I place my order and just let them get on with it; knowing if they don?t ship it out or can't get hold of it, I won't get charged. Nothing to loose. Excellent. The customer service is not the best, I will admit that. I have had to wait a few days just to get a response to my emails. This area certainly needs to be looked at. It is also difficult to get hold of someone on the phone. I have tried numerous times without success. I've found email is the best bet when looking for a response. However, the staff have always been pleasant to talk to. The website is also not the best-designed site on the Net. It looks a bit messy. However, I have been informed by one of the Customer Service staff (a guy called 'Alan') that it is under going re-design and should be up in February 2004 or so. Overall, I like this site. They have on most times, delivered what I ordered at a good price (I have even sold a few items on auction sites at a profit!). They also take all sorts of payments: Solo, Paypal, Splash Plastic, Visa Deb
it, Visa, Mastercard, Switch etc.
I was looking for a nice cheap place to by music online when I heard about 101cd.com's cheap CDs. I thought I'd go have a look and when I got to the site they had a nice array of cheap CDs. Jack Pot. Well, I ordered a CD and they said to wait something like 10 days for the CD to come which was fine. 10 days later I waited and... I waited. I thought I'd drop them and e-mail to ask what is going on to which they never replied. I loged in to my 101cd.com account to see if my CD had been shipped and it had. 1 weel later still no CD and no e-mail from their support. I log back in to my account and it says it's out of stock which was fair enough so I waited an extra week. By this time about a month had passed and still no contact from them or a CD so I thought I would give them a bell and a women who I spoke to said they would send it out within a week. So AGAIN I waited another week and it still didn't show up. I sent them another e-mail asking what hell was going on and nobody from 101cd.com replied. Oh wait.. one month later they sent me an e-mail saying they were sorry it was out of order. At last I have contact! Any way another month later I waited and it was STILL out of stock! So by now a total of 3 months had passed and I got really fed up of waiting for a bunch of people who don't have a clue as to what thy are doing to send me one CD. I canceled my order and I'm STILL waiting for them to put the money back in my account that they took out. I would advise anyone who is thinking of shopping here to go else where as their service is VERY poor! You should try www.cd-wow.com they also have very cheap CDs/DVDs and games. I ordered 3 CD from them and they came within 3 days. Result!
I read with sympathy the review by the user who tried to order the Alliyah CD. However, I am pretty sure that this was an isolated experience. I have to commend this company for excellent service. Recently I ordered the new Robbie Williams CD for my wife - the £8.95 plus free shipping offer did have something to do with it. I went ahead with my order, and it arrived a day or so after release. I then discovered that I had in fact been charged slightly more for the CD and also shipping. I did feel cheated, however I reckoned that I was partly to blame as when I checked back on my confirmation email, it also stated that I would be charged the higher price. Purely to 'chance my luck', I sent an email regarding all of this. To my joy, I received an email back fairly quickly saying I would be refunded £2 which did indeed happen - no questions asked. I also had lots of help from them some time ago when I ordered a Pet Shop Boys item. The service I received at that time was friendly and very helpful. So I would like to recommend 101cd.com to you all!
101cd.com is perhaps one of the worst CD sites that I have ever used, and believe me I have used a few! The site looks professional enough with the main page being easy to understand and impressing with a wide range of special offers. Perhaps the first thing you notice is the price of £7.99 for chart CD?s, which is the best around. However you then have to pay an extra £1 for delivery. This can be kept down by mass buying with every item after the first costing and extra 50p. This can make it cheaper than cdwow, but the delivery times that are provided by 101cd are rather disappointing and chart CD's can take up to 2 weeks to arrive compare to cdwow's few days (see my review). 101cd.com does perhaps offer the widest range of CD?s available with each artist having an import section from different countries, they also sell cassettes and Lp's if you are interested. But a word of warning on these older harder to find titles, the delivery times noted by the sites are very rarely kept to and in the past with my orders I have had to wait for 2 ?3 months and have still not received my order, the customer services are also very unhelpful and cannot give an indication as to how much longer it will take. They also have continuing problems with their suppliers, which can further delay your orders. If you are looking for hard to find titles you will get them here, but you will certainly have to wait a long time to get your hands on them. On the positive side the site offers a free membership, as most sites do, which offers discounts and notification of special offers, but overall I would advise you not to use this site as, certainly will not in the future. This is because of failed deliveries and the waiting times that I have had to incur and also because there are better sites available ( cdwow, play.com). Be warned! Pros Great range of CD?s and titles Co
ns Terrible delivery times (can take months) Prices of older titles rather expensive (try play.com)
They have no idea whether they have the CD.. They have no idea when the CD will be delivered... But they still post it on their website and say it's readily available. This is just plain shoddy, and is not a way to get me to return. The design of the pages is retina shatteringly terrible; ugly, clunky and certainly not user friendly. On the plus side, they have some of the cheapest prices around and, yes, their catalogue does indeed have quite a few hard to find titles. BUT Whether they actually have the titles is another matter.
As my title suggests, I have, in my experience of using '101CD', found it to be a bit of a mixed bag. I do use the site on-and-off, mainly because they have an excellent choice of CDs and offer things that many other sites do not have (in my case, I was looking for some of Michael Jackson's early stuff on CD). As well as having this range of stock, they also have a great selection of imports, and from a number of different countries, so there's every chance that you will find the item that you're looking for, even if it's by a somewhat obscure foreign artist. These are what I find to be the site's main strengths, though it should also be mentioned that another appealing aspect is the massive range of budget (£5.99) titles they have, that make this an ideal place to come for the bargain hunter too. However, 101CD is not without it's problems. The major problem that I have encountered with this site is the customer service and delivery times that are on offer. On more than one or two occasions when I have ordered the title from the site, the site has said that the product I want will be dispatched in 24-48 hours, only for me to wait a week before receiving an e-mail that the product has shipped. This is particularly problematic (as I found) when you have ordered something as a present for someone's birthday or anniversary, and it doesn't arrive within the time it should. This leads me on to the problem with their customer service. On each of the occasions that I have had the above problem, I have e-mailed the customer service department requesting to know why after the time that they promised to ship my product, is it still displayed on their account-tracker as 'pending' or 'shipping soon'. However, on each of the occasions that I have done this, I haven't received a reply until after I get my (late) confirmation e-mail, telling me that my CD has shipped. Then, when they
do reply, they simply say that my CD has shipped (by which time, they are correct to say that, although that still doesn't tell me why the delay in sending the product to me arose). So, to bring this particular opinion to an end, i would say that 101CD are very good, in that they offer a wide range of CDs (they also do DVDs and videos too) that include some hard-to-get material, and a wide range of imports are also on offer. However, I would advise against this site if you are looking to by anything new (as the prices for newer stuff aren't much different to the high street) and if you are looking for quick, reliable delivery and a helpful form of customer service. As I said at the beginning, this company appear to be very much a mixed bag.
101cd.com is probly the best place I have shopped on the net for anything! Some of their CD's cost from as little as £5.99, and as far as I know no-one can beat that! If you are looking for a Dance artist, pop artist or a jazz artist you are bound to find it on this site! If they do not have a CD in stock they will go and find it for you, but it could take time. It can get annoying waiting for some products, but when you get them and realise that you have paid half the price as in the shop, you wont care! One thing that I dont like about 101cd.com is that they charge for delivery, it costs £1 for the first CD, then 25p for the next 4 cd's, after that it is free, but who is gonna want to buy more than 5 cd's! If you buy a CD worth £9.99 or £14.99 they wont charge for the delivery, but what they do is charge you either £9.98 or £14.98, what a con! But apart from that they are a good cheap site to use, and they even accept Debit cards which is useful for people like myself who do not have a credit card! You are also supposed to be able to get i-points for using them, but they never get credited, but 1 thing is if you collect i-points you can use them here!
