I have used abebooks several times and have not been disappointed so far. Abebooks is a great place to find rare or out of print books that are not sold elsewhere. BUT because it is a sort of warehouse for independent booksellers, quality and shipping times can vary significantly. Some individual sellers are better than others, so you must be careful from whom you order. And unfortunately the AbeBooks customer service department is often less than helpful. Still if you need hard-to-find book at a low price this is the place to go.

If you are looking for a rare book then I believe that Abebooks is the place to go. My experience is with Abebooks.co.uk - the UK section of the website as abebooks.com is the US version. Abebooks do not sell books themselves but provide the means for booksellers to list their books and for visitors to the website to find them. You can find new books, rare books and used books as well as textbooks for college/university. You can even search for First Edition books. This is the WORST experience. Unsual slow shipping speed...from the store's policy it said it takes 25 to 45 business days to arrival your home? That's almost about 2 months. Sound crazy, huh. No feedback can be given by customers...poor visibility of the service. Comparing to Amazon UK, Amazon is 100 times better with speed, quality, and visibility.
