I was a customer of Achica from years back, when they had just started out and the website was basic, no mobile version and little in the way of email. Back then, you used to pay for your item and it arrived, beautifully packed, within a few days. Now, they do not give a toss about customer service.
I haven't ordered from them for over a year, and against my better judgement, when some glass lampshades that I'd been after for ages came up on a sale I ordered them and some funky lightbulbs to go with the shades.
Some six weeks after paying for the lampshades, I today came home from work to find a large cardboard box in a puddle outside my house. This was my Achica parcel (thanks Yodel - you make a well-matched business partner to Achica and probably advise each other on customer service).
I opened the soggy box to find one strip of bubble wrap around the two boxes of glass lampshades (the boxes are about 30cm cubed, and weigh about 1kg each). By some miracle only one lampshade was smashed to pieces (I have the cuts and blood on my carpet to prove that the lampshade arrived broken), and I just know what response I will get to my complaint to Achica's "customer disservice" department. They'll say they only order sufficient items from the manufacturer to fulfil the orders they've received. This time, it just isn't good enough for me.
To add to my distress, I opened the funky lightbulb boxes (casually thrown in the bottom of the box with the lampshades with no protection except for a tightly fitting cardboard box around the bulb - they were outside the carelessly thrown bubble wrap), only to find that both lightbulbs are covered in greasy fingerprints. They do not look new, they look like some hooky piece of tat from a disreputable market stall, and certainly NOT worth £9 each.
I've been messed around so much by this company. Time and again I've had orders not delivered, arrive with broken goods, or taken weeks/months to arrive, with excessively slow refunds, when requested.
I honestly believe that the combined IQ of everyone working at Achica is less than my shoe size (6, by the way). Surely they want to make money, not take customers' money, order and pay for goods from suppliers, and then have to give a refund to the customer? Where is the business sense in that? Are they relying on making a profit from having the use of my money for 6 weeks before having to refund me?
My advice to anyone suckered into a "good deal" from Achica is STEER WELL CLEAR, there is noone you can speak to if there's a problem, and their email customer service is appallingly slow. As for refunds - just accept they'll hang onto your money for as long as they can get away with it.
I can only review my personal experience with Achica and I was very happy with the service. I ordered several items of bed linen. My goods arrived in 10 days although when I ordered the delivery was quoted as up to 28 days so I was really happy they took a lot less. I was emailed and sent a text as to the delivery day and on the day I was contacted again by email and text and was given a one hour window for delivery time which is a great help. My goods arrived exactly on time, the order was complete and the bed linen was really good quality. I was very pleased and could not fault the service I received.
No problem with the order...arrived as expected 4 weeks after I ordered BUT , the first item , a bedspread costing £125 arrived before the rest of it came. When it was all thereI realised that it didn't all match so I wanted to return it. Of course this was after the 10 days return period ass it arrived much earlier. Also, you have to pay postage for returns which for the size of the package was massive. Which pretty much negates the initial saving. To as insult to injury, I saw the EXACT same bedding in TK MAXX for much cheaper. I will not deal with a company in future that makes you pay for returns and has no customer service number to call.
I LOVE Achica.
Having recently moved into a new flat, I have been trying to furnish it and accessorise it in an interesting, contemporary way, which is pretty difficult on a budget!
I bought all the basics (crockery, mugs, cheap cushions etc) from IKEA, but it's all a little 'generic' for my taste, but have found 'non generic' things can be really expensive.
Achica is a 'members only' site. You sign up, then they send you an email every day with new offers. Offers can range from furniture, to bedding, to niknaks to cushions, whatever you need for the home, it's on there. You have to be quick though, as things go quickly and sales only last a few days. Some of the brands you may have heard of, others you won't, but that's why I like it so much!!
Some other reviews on here have said that products take a while to come, this is true, but they do say when to expect it when you order it, and they do send you a tracking number. I have ordered a few things from Achica and have had no issues with them.
If you're after something different, this is the place to go. Well worth a visit!
I ordered from achica.com for the first time before reading the reviews here. After reading the reviews I was afraid that there would be problems with the order and I hoped that the item would arrive at all.I ordered a cushion on the 14th of July (which was a Saturday!) and received it today, on the 17th of July! I was really surprised by the fast delivery after reading the reviews and due to the fact, that the delivery period in the purchase confirmation was stated between the 20th and 27th of July. The product itself is really pretty and I am happy with my order. Maybe the fast delivery had to do with the article I ordered, but I still wanted to share my good experience with achica.com.
When you live in a town with the limited shopping possibilities of the one where I live, are time poor, internet shopping is a real must, especially if like me you like finding things that are a little bit different. When it comes to buying things for my home or treating myself achica, a "members only" site selling mainly homeware is often the place that I end up finding something a little bit special - I've been a member since the end of 2011, and having checked have bought things 7 times from the site in as many months. The site does, I think, have somewhat of a bad reputation - this very site provides mixed views, but in my experience though delivery has often been lengthy I've had some really lovely luxury items from achica and normally with a good saving.
Using the site:
The site works by being accessible only to those who have signed up - signing up is free, and from memory straight forward. I get daily emails, which I could unsubscribe from at any time, telling me which products are on sale. Generally items are grouped together and would tend to be high -end items, at a discount. It's quite varied and sales are normally limited to a couple of days (though the same categories do pop up time and time again), things on offer range from fashion (jewellery, clothes, handbags) to decorative items for your home through to travel offers and items for children.
I find the site fairly easy to navigate through, though you have to be logged on to view savings. The names sold are normally ones I'd recognise - like Orla Kiely, Bodum, Dualit, Kenneth Turner or John Crane, but often there can be designers I haven't heard of. Everything is illustrated with clear photos and items range in price from pennies up to thousands of pounds for an original painting.
My experience of buying:
I've bought varied items from Achica - a quick perusal of my order history reveals an Orla Kiely bag (very good saving), more Orla Kiely (some bedding I'd had my eye on for a while again with a great saving - probably fifty percent), a painting that I love, a Brabantia bread bin that I would never have paid full price for but was happy to snap up at the lowest price I could see it anywhere on the web and the most expensive item I've ever bought a £99 Gallery silver leaf mirror which is stunning I have to say - again on sale at over double that elsewhere. I'm currently awaiting delivery of a light and some pizza plates.
I can't say that buying from Achica is a quick process (though the 10% quidco does track very quickly), and some things have taken literally a couple of months to arrive, whilst others like my bag turned up very quickly within a couple of days. I don't know what Achica's business model is but I assume items may be shipped straight from the manufacturer, hence the varied waits. Everything is delivered by dpd - who are a great delivery company, the only problem I have is that generally an email arrives on the day that delivery is going to happen giving you an hour slot - which is normally very accurate, but not much good when you've left for work at 8 and get an email to say your item is arriving at 10. I've always managed to reschedule and, bar the painting which took forever have found delivery acceptable.
Luckily, so far, I've been delighted with everything I've ordered and so I can't comment on returns or how good Achica are if things go wrong - they do promise to pick up any damaged in transit items and replace. When my painting was taking a long time to arrive I was kept updated and any communication I've had with the company have been fine - but that's only my experience. Postage is a little pricey and can add £7.95 to a purchase, but there are regular free postage promotions for low weight items, and like I explained earlier quidco cashback does offset the cost.
What you can buy is a bit random, but there's normally something to tempt me, and I've had some great finds from the site, sometimes when I've been looking for a hard to find item it's just popped up on achica, there's quite often something to tempt me with parting with my cash. Paying is secure and I've never had any issues with my account or with poor communication about orders. Achica offer an incentive scheme for signing up friends via email or social network - again I can't comment on this as it's not an area of the site I've used.
I think Achica does offer some genuine savings for consumers, and is of interest to anyone who likes designer names or something a bit quirky. The same things do seem to come round and round again but often there are new things and items I wouldn't find on the High Street even if I had the time to browse. I would recommend Achica, despite some of the horror stories I've read elsewhere my experience has been good and I will, I'm sure, continue to order from there. Recommended - it's worth a look.
Update: I've now had reason to use customer service, an item I bought (light shade) wasn't quite right for the hall and being glass hard to arrange to return - achica customer service have been excellent, via email, refunded already and it's being picked up in a one hour slot to my convenience - so thumbs up.
im surprised by the reviews on here actually, I have made over 40 purchases through achica and they have all turned up within a week and have been a wicked bargain!I was also really chuffed with the art I bought on there as it is rom a collectible artist and is way below market price so all in all im very happy - i woudl say though they coudl do with having a phone number to ring, but having said that they did get back to me withing 48hours whe i enquired about a product
I ordered a mirro from Achica at the beginning of November. They told me delivery was between 2-9 th December. Nothing arrived. I emailed them to enquire and they offered to give me my money back. I returned an email to say that I wanted my goods. I have heard absolutely nothing from them since. They have been sitting on my money all this time and are not communicating with me. Have I made a huge mistake ordering through them in the first place and then refusing a refund, by this time though they'd had several weeks' worth of interest from my cash...Any similar experiences and advice?
DO NOT BUY FROM ACHICA! POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!
I had an order part delivered that was damaged.
They do not have a telephone number for Customer Services, so I had to e-mail them.
It took 2 days for them to reply. They asked what day would be good for them to collect the damaged item, and I gave them the information. I replied on December 1st, and have not heard from them since!
Finally heard from them on the 12th of December. They were 'unexpectedly out of the office' for 12 days. They have refunded the cost of the item (but no postage refund) and given me a £5 credit, although something tells me I won't be doing business with them again..
If Achica wil not un-subscribe you. Report them to the 'Information Comissioner's Office' You will need to provide them with information in support of your complaint or they will not be able to consider it. Their complaint form will explain the kind of information they need, but if you are unsure please call their helpline on 0303 123 1113. Good luck!
I wish I had taken the time to read the reviews on Achica but I sniffed a bargain and decided to buy. Over the last few months I've ordered several items and in fairness most have been okay but what I'm not pleased about is when things go wrong, they are slow to respond. So far, I've had two missing items and one damaged one. When I queried the first missing item they insisted it has been delivered and signed for. However a few weeks later it turned up in their warehouse and was resent. My lasted item is a 3 part painting, two parts are missing and the one part that was delivered has a damaged frame!Normally, you would pick up the phone and get it sorted but they have NO telephone number! Not happy!
I ordered a pair of funky perspex chairs from Achica back in July. They finally arrived in September but when I unpacked them one had a big crack across the seat.
I wrote to the customer service team, sent a photo in and they said they'd arrange pick-up and order me a new one. The pick-up didn't arrive on the day they said and it took 2 more goes to actually get it collected. They then told me there would be a 7-8 week delay on the second chair. Hmmmm.
So here we are in November: I got a text from them on Tuesday saying they were delivering that day but I knew I'd be out at work so I was a bit annoyed at the short notice. However, I left my side gate unbolted with a note on the door saying they could leave it behind the house. When I got back from work, no chair.
I got home yesterday to find they'd delivered then instead and left the parcel with my neighbour.
I didn't get round to opening it until this morning and you can imagine what I said when I realised they'd sent the seat of the chair and NO LEGS!!!!!
I searched and search for a landline - of course, there isn't any. So I had to leave a message on their online service, which I did at 9am. And of course there has been no reply at all today. So I'm stuck with one good chair and another perspex seat with no legs and a massive cardboard box and packaging clogging up my dining room. Arghhhhhh!
Never again. As another poster said, the achica emails are going straight into the bin from now on.
I ordered a bookcase in early September for delivery 19 - 26 October. When that date came and went I contacted them and was told there was a delay, they would contact supplier and get back to me. Since then, nothing! I have contacted them again and had no response at all. They are quick enough to take payment, however. Order number 653364.Any suggestions for what to do next gratefully received.
I bought a load of scented candles from Achica after being seduced by the adverts on the TV. They arrived all smashed up, broken glass everywhere, very poorly wrapped - with no thought what so ever. The order was £55.95 of wasted money. Anyway I went to try and call them and could not find a number, so I emailed them, nothing for 2 days. So I emailed them again, and again nothing. What a pathetic, borderline criminal company. Don't bother with them if you know whats good for you. Order number OR176333
