What is amazon?
It is an online store, which sells... well which doesn't sell would probablhy be an easier description! I don't think they sell houses yet, but I may be wrong.
Amazon is an american company which was one of the first companies to sell goods by the internet. It was launched online in 1995 and started as an on-line bookstore it soon started selling other goods such as videos, DVDs, CDs, computer games and software and then even furniture, food and toys (so you can see how it easier to describe what they dont sell!)
Amazon now has online websites in the UK, Germanu, France, China, Italy, Canada and Japan.
Amazon sells new products, and also has a market place where customers can sell secondhand products such as books, DVDs.
If you are interested in purchasing something from Amazon you can either search the whole site, or search within specific areas eg Books, Electronics, Music etc.
Your search result will usually return a list of matching results each with some detail about the product, the price, when you can receive the item if you order within the next x hours and choose a particular type o delivery.
There is also a rating (out of 5) next to each product. The products are rated by the consumers, and you can easily click to read a review before purchasing.
The buy new price is displayed and next to it, the used & new price from Amazon marketplace, so you can decide whether you want to see if it is available secondhand first.
If you choose to check out the market place you are shown the sellers price and shipping costs, the condition of the item, and then seller information including the sellers ID, the sellers rating and any comments about the product.
You can choose to add items to your shopping basket and keep on shopping, or go to the virtual checkout and pay for your goods.
When you pay for your goods, you are given the delivery options, for the different prices, so if you want your items sooner rather than later, then the delivery costs is higher.
If you spend over a set amount, and choose to receive your items in 2-3 days then the delivery can be free.
Amazon also has a wishlist idea. This is similar to an online wedding gift list, where you add items to your own personal list, and give the list ID out to your friends and family, who can then purchase the items of your list.
All in all amazon is easy to use, it has a similar layout and look and feel to other well known online stores, so if you have used one of them, then you will recognise the layout.
I like Amazon, but you can sometimes find the product cheaper on a different website, or if it slightly cheaper on amazon, you can usually have free delivery from a different website, so do make sure you shop around for the best deals.
Summary: Checkout amazon, but shop around
