Advantages: get cheap items without ebay
Disadvantages: none if they treat everyone like they did us
On Amazon you can buy and sell but my review is only on being a buyer for the pure fact that I have yet to sell anything on here and therefore it would not be right of course to comment on that side of things.
I have bought many things from Amazon though.
To Buy
First you must be registered on their site amazon.co.uk.
This is simple and no different than registering with other sites such as name address etc.
When you have found something on the site that you may wish to buy you click on that item and you will be given information about the item. If it is books you will be able to choose hardback, paperback or even if you want it on cd.
You will then if there are more than one for sale find a list of the item and price and postage details. Sometimes the item you want is second hand sometimes brand new. You can choose whichever you want with no problems.
When you have chosen you put it in the Basket until you have finished your shop.
When you have finished and got all you want to buy in your basket then you go to the checkout.
Here you will be asked if it is your first visit for your payment details. If you have already been here before then they will ask you if you still want it sent to your address or another which is handy if you want to send it as a gift.
They will send you an email telling you when to expect your purchase but you can also go on line and track where your parcel is.
Now that is all to the good but sometimes mishaps happen and you dont receive the parcel. This happened to me. I ordered a sander from them.
We were given a date range of about 3 days when it would come but nothing appeared. We waited a couple of days and still nothing.
When something goes wrong I think that this is when you know how good or how bad a site is.
We got on to Amazon although to be fair to Amazon I was buying through a seller on their site not from them themselves. The man told me to email the seller and by the rules of Amazon they have to get back to me and get it sorted within 5 days.
Amazon was very helpful though and oddly enough the next day the money went back into my account with an email from Amazon saying it would be there. Nothing from the seller. I have noticed that none of his things were for sale the next day so presume they had cancelled his account with them.
As we had wasted enough time waiting for the sander to come we decided to go into the town and buy one and as luck would have it Wickes had a sale on and we got the identicle sander for half the price we would have paid on Amazon.
Perhaps there is a lesson to be learnt there!
Anyway we did get our money back with no hazzle and I would use Amazon again.
Summary: Many items for sale

- 13/03/09 I have no end of problems with them lately - not being able to use my gift certificate, them cancelling my order without my permission and not receiving items. I wouldn't recommend them at all. |
