Advantages: Easy to set up, categorises items on your list, easy to buy from, thank you list
Disadvantages: They don't tell you to expect a delivery
I have been a happy customer of Amazons for a while now, so when it came to getting married, and we needed to compile a wedding list, I thought Amazons wedding list service would be a great idea.
Setting up the list was really easy, you log onto Amazon, and go to the gifts and wish lists tab and click on wedding lists, then you click through the links to create your wedding list. Once your list is created, you just browse Amazon as usual, and when you go to a product, there is a little button that comes up saying "Add to wedding list" clicking this button allows you to add things directly to your wedding list. It arranges
When people want to buy from your wedding list, they simply go to amazon.co.uk/weddings, and enter your details in the "find a wedding list" field. Then they can buy a gift from your list as they would any other item from amazon.
You can click on the "View my wedding list" button, which shows you your wedding list. Across the top of the page it tells you how many items are on your wedding list, and how many items have been purchased. There is also a "Thank you List" which allows you to see the items that have been purchased, along with the name and address of the person who has bought the item for you.
Now for the down side. When I set up the wedding list I was not entirely sure how the delivery would work, I was expecting either an email asking when I would like gifts delivered, or for them to all be delivered after the wedding, or to be delivered to the person who had bought the gift for you for them to bring to the wedding. What I was not expecting was to get home one day to find a note through my door to say that the parcel had been left behind my house! I wasn't expecting a parcel, so I opened it, to find that it was the coffee machine bought by a friend from my list. After this there was 2 weeks of going backwards and forwards to sorting offices and delivery depots to collect presents which are now filling my house, waiting till after the big day when I can open them. It is not as if you have a huge amount of free time in the run up to your wedding to go chasing around for things which have been delivered by different couriers without any notification or information. I have had to check the wedding list daily so I can work out whether I am expecting anything, which is a bit sad, as I had hoped to wait till I opened things to find out who had bought me what. Even an email to say that a present from my wedding list has been dispatched would be helpful, after all, amazon normally do this if you order something from them, and one of my guests said he had an email to say his gift had been dispatched. I currently believe I may have one present missing, however in order to chase it up I would have to open them all so I know which one it is.
Overall, very easy to set up, nicely arranged list, and easy for people to buy from, however the delivery arrangements just let it down.
Summary: If they would only tell you when to expect things it would be brill!
