Simply type in amazon.co.uk into any browser and open up a shopping world at your fingertips! Populated with small companies, large companies and individuals selling products in all kinds of categories, the most popular being electronics, books & music, Amazon is the place to bag yourself a bargain or sell your unwanted items to trusted buyers and sellers.
I have always bought music, books and various items off Amazon as it is easy to find what you are looking for from the global catalogue. It is advised to go with trusted sellers and you can find out whether a seller is trusted or not by looking at their feedback rating.
I recently sold an electronic item for a fair price on Amazon. Amazon take a small cut compared to eBay for listing the item. The process was easy to manage and easy to leave feedback. However, the one negative I would mention here is that it took 21 days for me to actually receive payment into my bank account, but this is because I am a new seller and hadn't sold products on Amazon before. I understand that they have to do this because of waiting for confirmation from the buyer and for security reasons but it seemed a lengthy process to me! I also found the "help" centre on Amazon difficult to understand for the questions I wanted to ask about this process.
The seller central portal is fairly complex to negotiate in the payments section. I have no ideas what "failed disbursement" means until I googled it, so I would expect them to use more accessible language on a help page!
From a small business perspective, I am still awaiting confirmation to be able to sell food items on Amazon. It is possible to sell large quantities of items by opting for the professional seller account which costs approx. £60 a month, as opposed to the basic sellers account which is free of charge. It wouldn't be profitable for me to go for the professional sellers account this soon into my business, but there are various benefits associated with this such as setting your preferred shipping rates.
Some people use postage and packaging to charge the bulk of their price, so check this before you make a payment as you could be ripped off!
Overall, I have had positive experiences with Amazon, and lots of interest on products I have sold there. It's a good way to sell, but be honest in your descriptions as amazon don't release your cash until they have received confirmation from the buyer that the item has arrived as stated! This is a good way of doing it as it ensures quality standards are high and people trust the site.
Books & DVDs & music are often cheaper on the site, from discount businesses, and this is mainly what I use Amazon for. There are unbiased product reviews listed below each product and this helps you to make an informed decision before going ahead with buying a product.
When I had queries, Amazon were quick to respond via email which I appreciated.
There are a few scams going round on eBay & Amazon at the moment, mainly in the electronics sections as there is a lot of money to be made there. This generally involves messages from someone claiming to be a potential buyer with questions of a personal nature including requests for pics of the item. You should always wait for confirmed payment and an email off the genuine Amazon email address (be sure to check this) before proceeding with delivery.
Summary: Good site to get a bargain and to find products not in the shops.
