Advantages: Huge selection., Easy to use., Amazing customer service.
Disadvantages: Postage costs., Prices can be a bit high.
Amazon.co.uk is the UK branch of the huge US site Amazon.com. They sell a vast selection of goods, from CDs to books, dvds to software. The available titles they have is amazing, any CD or book, they will more than likely have it for you. And all are described well on the site for your information. The prices are one of the important factors in deciding where to buy from and at Amazon they are not always the best. Pre orders and new release items tend to have good discounts on them and they do very often have specials on certain ranges, like DVDs for under £10 or books at 50% off. The prices in general are ok but you then have to add postage on top, which can be a fair bit more. As Amazon, unlike most newer sites, have gone for additional postage costs this can make them less attractive as you may find a book a t a good price but them have to add £3.00 for postage and suddenly it's cheaper elsewhere. Books are obviously the most expensive to post but the postage costs of DVDs are still fairly high at £1.74 for one. That said you could still find some great bargains here if you look round and with the bonus of vouchers for money off being available from time to time it's worth checking them out. Probably the best thing Amazon have going for them though is there customer service and delivery. This is probably the best from an on-line store you will find. There's a good help section on the site and if that doesn't answer you questions there's a free phone number you can use as well as email of course. As for deliveries, well fast is an understatement in most cases! You can order a CD on Monday morning and it will be there for you to enjoy on Tuesday morning, well packaged and in perfect condition. And if it's not perfect you can easily send it back. This has happened to me on 2 separate occasions and in both cases it cost me nothing for the return and I had the replacement very quickly. I would certai
nly recommend Amazon.co.uk even if it were just to look up an item you want. They are definitely miles ahead of most other sites for customer care and I think they are here to stay and can only get better.

- 08/06/01 Yeah, I find that too. The only reason I but with videostreet is that there is no P&P. I find that amazon has a much larger range though, great op.

- 06/05/01 Excellent op on an excellent company, but as you say the P+P is a killer. |
