Advantages: Shipping service, customer care
Disadvantages: not cheapest
I know there are all ready numerous opinions on Amazon.co.uk, but I would just like to give credit where its due.
For those of you out there who are a bit sceptic of purchasing on-line, well Amazon, is probably the best place to start. The main page is well designed and awfully simple to navigate, each product group is clearly identified for instant access on the left of the page. Also their is an excellent search facility which will bring up all instances of a title, wether it be in book, video or DVD format.
Once a product is selected, you get an in-depth description of the product, and all its technical details. Amazon also has a review section where previous customers write their opinion on the product.
Purchasing is simple all you do is select the product you require and add it to your cart, once you have completed all your purchases, all you need to do is to proceed to the checkout. If you are existing customer all you are required to do is confirm which address you want the product sent to. New customers will be required to enter their payment details as well as their delivery instructions.
Once completed Amazon will e-mail you a reciept of the order, and also a reciept of postage. This is where amazon come into their own as they are by far the most efficient at shipping their goods. Previously I have placed an order for a DVD at 4pm one evening, and it was sitting on my door matt the very next morning. Its not always that quick, but if the product is in stock you can almost guarentee that it will be with you within 48 hours.
Amazon's after sale care is also excellent with refund's or delivery problems always handled efficiently. They also keep you informed of their promotions and events they have running.
The only disadvantage of amazon is that they are not the cheapest site on the web, but with ample opertunity of Amazon vouchers from various promotion and special deals, many a good barg
ain can be obtained

- 02/08/01 I've used Amazon quite a bit myself, but I think they are only worth using if you have gift vouchers are there are other cheaper retailers around.

- 01/08/01 Their site is very easy to use. I have only ordered from them twice, and the books took several days to arrive. But perhaps I was just unlucky! |

- 01/08/01 Good Op, my order once got lost in the post and they replaced it no problem. My only problem is a couple of times the CD boxes have been cracked but I guess that's down to the "gentle" handling by royal mail! |
