Advantages: Shop without leaving the house.

Disadvantages: Sometimes items are out of stock.

I have been a regular shopper in Argos since the late 80's and used to pop between there and Index (the Littlewoods equivalent), finding the best price for everything I wanted to buy. It was a real novelty to browse through a catalogue and order items in store that you had never seen or touched.

Argos hasn't changed a great deal in that time apart from having a far larger range of stock and of course they have gone online!

Argos.co.uk is a well laid out website, absolutely chock-a-block full of everything you could possibly need for the home.

Items come under the following headings:

Kitchen & Laundry, Home & Furniture, Garden & DIY, Sports & Leisure, Health & Personal Care, Home Entertainment, Video Games, Photography, Office, PCs & Phones, Toys & Games, Nursery, Jewellery & Watches and Gifts & Hobbies.

You just click on a heading, you then get a drop down list of all the items for sale under that range and you just click on the item you are interested in. All items have a good description, price and a clear coloured photo, which makes finding what you want, that bit easier.

The Argos home page is where you find the up to date special offers and there are adverts for other Argos sites i.e. ArgosEntertainment.co.uk, which has offers on 1000s of DVD, CD and Blue Rays. ArgosGifts.co.uk, which has offers on gift experience days. ArgosCompare.co.uk, their new comparison site and ArgosSpares.co.uk, this is where you will find electrical spares & accessories.
They are obviously branching out then!

What I find very handy about Argos.co.uk, is you can choose to reserve your item online and go and collect it instore. If the item is available, it will be put on hold for you straight away and you will have till the end of the next working day to collect it. This saves you the cost of delivery and you have the security of knowing your item is in stock and you are not making a wasted journey.

If you choose to have the item delivered to your home, the charge is £5.95, but they will deliver any size of order for that amount. I usually do a big shop before Christmas and have it delivered to my home. It saves me having to struggle with lots of shopping in a busy town centre. It is also quite a pleasant experience browsing online with a nice cup of tea and your feet up!

I have never had any real problems with Argos.co.uk in all the years I have been using the site. They did once accept my order for a 2 seater & 3 seater couch, then waited 6 weeks before they told me it was out of stock and they couldn't get anymore of them.
Needless to say, I was not amused! The customer service staff member I dealt with was very apologetic and offered me alternatives, but in the end I bought my couches elsewhere. Apart from this though, I have never had reason to complain and orders have always arrived in around 5-7 days. You can actually choose the day you want it to be delivered, which is very handy and more often than not, you can choose the time slot too.

I will keep buying from Argos.co.uk, they sell mainly good quality items at competitive prices and apart from that one hiccup, they have been very reliable.

Summary: Argos.co.uk - The online shopping mall.
