Advantages: Easy checkout process
Disadvantages: Battered fruit/veg, terrible packing
Right, where to start!
I am usually a tesco.com customer but on the day I did my last major food shop there was a problem with the secure pages and try as I might I just couldn't complete my order so I resorted to asda.com. So off I went to said website, got myself a virtual trolley and began my aimless wandering.
Layout
---------
The site is well laid out with all the usual search boxes and ability to search by basic product description; ie: Bakery, Dairy etc. It's big on colour, which in my opinion can be too distracting! I like to be more focused on the important writing than bombarded with a rainbow on each page. I found the offers difficult to navigate through as I seemed to be relying a lot on the back browser button rather than flowing through the 'store' but this could be down to it being my first time using the online service. One thing that did strike me as confusing was the fact that a lot of the products appear in several catergories so found I was seeing the same things over and over.
All in all it was clear(ish) but could do with being less fussy. More quality of content rather than hundreds of catergories to search through.
At the 'till'
----------
I had no problems with the check out pages, that I can recall. Everything went swimmingly and I had a free delivery code that was accepted without issue. I got the day and time I needed my delivery for (these are allocated in 2 hour slots for the whole day) and I left the site a happy girl...turned out I jumped the gun a tad!!!!
Delivery
----------
Hmmmmph! Delivery day came and the order arrived within the designated time frame...good good! The delivery person was polite and explained the reciept and delivery process very well. All seemed to be fine. They had substituted a couple of things but they were well picked and we didn't need to send them back for a refund (which of course is an option if you are unhappy with the alternative chosen for you). After we waved goodbye to the asda van we went to unpack...
Packing
----------
We had friends coming to stay that afternoon so really needed everything to be well as we wouldn't have time to run out to the shops to get anything. Weeeeeeell!!! We all try to pack like items together and know the hard and fast rules about raw meats, don't we? Apparently not! I had raw meat in with my strawberries, and tins in with my tomatoes which left them bruised and split...not good. My mango looked as if someone had mistook it for a sweet smelling albeit odd shaped shot put!!! My dozen eggs ended being 7 after being battered in the bag with my jars. My picnic was not looking good when I found my chilled pre-assembled sandwich fillers split open and leaking all over the bag and other products. I think somebody needs retraining on how to pack bags. I was madly disappointed and with our friends ringing the doorbell had no time to phone and complain, however...
Feedback
------------
I filled in their feedback form about a week ago and explained my concerns and told them of the issues I had come across in my order. I have not had a response from their customer service team about my complaints. I do hope they get back to me soon so that I can comment on how good this part of the service was.
Overall
---------
Oh, dear. Not a good service to be honest. If you can't enjoy the food then what's the point in paying for it?! I will not be shopping online at asda for my groceries again in the near future. Hopefully they will improve their service so that I can but for now I'm sticking with tesco...providing their checkout is working otherwise I'll be checking out Ocado!
Summary: Come back tesco...all is forgiven!

- 12/06/09 I also had a rough experience with Asda. I can't believe they are like this - do they not know what competition is out there?!?! |

- 02/06/09 Packing is SO important - such a shame they messed up your order by bad packing. |

- 01/06/09 I've had terrible experiences using their service. Once the driver left 3 bags on his van but wouldn't redeliver. Another time 3 hours late then loads of stuff missing. I gave them one more chance but they messed up again. I'm sticking with Sainsbury. |
