Advantages: cheap and current fashion for reasonable prices

Disadvantages: quality is questionable, returns not funded

Asos.com is an online shopping directory that focuses mostly on the current trends and fashion of the present day. It offers clothes, shoes, accessories and beauty products and caters for both male and female shoppers.

I first heard of asos through a tv advert and wasn't really a huge internet shopper for things like clothes. I prefer to try on. This xmas I decided to give it a go, especially after I joined and they offered free delivery and some discount products.

Browsing the website is pretty easy. Its very user friendly with a side bar of all the different categories and designers. The images of the clothing is displayed well with different angles and a short video of the model walking on a mini runway so you get an idea of what you're buying. Great so you can see how it hangs and how the garment moves when on.

Descriptions on each of the product is located next to the images. The main pages of each category (eg day dresses, trousers etc) also have the option of organising the listing to "price order" or "whats new" which is handy if you're on a budget (like myself!). It also contains information on some items if they have been influenced by a certain celebrities look so you can get your own imitation version.

Once choosing what you'd like to buy, selecting the appropriate size, it then gets added to the shopping bag. Once you've finished your shopping you then click on the link to proceed to checkout, much like any other online shopping website. During the payment procedure you can type in certain codes to receive discount shopping or free delivery. Codes are available on the internet, its a simple case of googling them!

I bought myself a chiffon dress from asos and wore it for a couple of hours one day. I noticed a few holes in the garment and had to return it. Despite liking the look of the garment I didnt want a replacement as having now felt it, the material was way too thin and was bound to rip over the slightest tug. In my opinion, Asos products seem to be made on the cheap side which explains why the prices are so low! Another downfall is that you have to pay the costs of returning the item. I have since only bought a few more items, all NOT the asos brand but the high street/designer brands that they stock (kookai, oasis and mina) where I know what quality to expect.

Overall I think asos is a good website to find some good bargains but you have to bear in mind you get what you pay for. If you're into the throw away fashion and like to wear garments on a few times then it might be a good place but otherwise I do warn people of the quality! I also don't like that you have to pay for the returns.

As a self confessed shopaholic I do prefer the buzz you get actually trapsing through the shops and trying on garments before I buy. I think I will stick to that but sometimes if I'm bored and window shopping online and see that they stock am item I like, I will give it a go again.

Summary: You get what you pay for. Good for throw away fashion.

I've never had any problems with asos but I do agree about us having to pay to return items, I think thats bad espicially if its a manufacturers fault.

You do get what you pay for but you may have been unlucky with the garment you bought.
