A good place to see the latest styles (asos.com)

I have often browsed through www.asos.com to see what styles are currently in fashion. Asos stands for As Seen On Screen and claims to sell items of clothing, shoes and accessories that we've all seen recently on various celebrities in the magazines. Sometimes an item will have a line of text under it that says "in the style of..." to give you an idea of which celebrity wore that kind of item.

I'm not a fashion victim who has to be wearing the latest styles whether they suit me or not but I do sometimes see someone in a photo wearing a pair of shoes or a top that has me thinking "I wish I could find a high street version of that" and that's where asos comes in. Alot of the clothes are high street copies that aren't identical to the designer versions worn by the celebrities but very similar but they also stock designer labels too so often you can get the exact item if you have the money for designer labels!

I don't often buy designer clothes, this is not only because of the cost of them but also I find styles change quite quickly so it's better to buy a cheaper version if it isn't going to last beyond one season.

The website is clearly laid out with sections for women, men, designer, beauty, outlet, kids and community areas. Obviously these sections have sub categories such as dresses, tops, shoes, underwear etc. Even though I have an account with asos I haven't contributed to the community section yet, it contains posts about outfits etc and I have no time for adding to this, I'm far too busy on Dooyoo for other community sites!

The beauty section is something I would never purchase from though, there are stacks of discounted branded cosmetics out there far cheaper on various sites.

The site has one flaw in my opinion, it is very slow to load pages and I get very impatient with it. I have looked at it on several different computers and it's always the same, very slow. If you're more patient than me though this shouldn't create a problem and the pages are worth looking at when they eventually load!

The sizes available on asos are usually size 6 to size 18 so there's quite alot of range there but there aren't many items that go under or above these sizes.

Delivery is £3.95 for standard delivery which takes 3-5 days and £5.95 for next day delivery. I have only ever used the standard delivery and my items arrived 4 days later by courier, I would never pay £5.95 for delivery but I expect some people will if they want an item quickly.

The prices are another area I'm dubious about. Most items are not cheap and if you like a bargain this site probably isn't for you. I like bargains and have only ever found a few items on here that I found cheap enough to tempt me, the majority have price tags beyond what I'm willing to spend on clothes.

However the items I have bought have been fine, the sizing is accurate and there is a size guide to help you ensure you buy the correct size, the quality of the goods was again fine and they arrived quickly.

I can't comment on phoning the company because I've never needed to which can only be a good thing! Returns are not something I've had to do either but on looking at this section I found the customer has to pay the postage to return items which I'm not keen on, I prefer to use companies who have a free returns service so if something doesn't look right it doesn't cost the earth to send it back.

I have to admit I mostly just use asos to browse through and look at the styles that are out there and then I go to cheaper sites to actually buy the items in those styles but on the occasions I have ordered from asos I've had no problems with the items or the delivery so depending on how much you're willing to spend this could be a great site for the fashion conscious.

In summary the clothes are good quality and sizes are accurate, there is a wide range of styles available and sizes too and delivery is prompt however on the downside the site is slow, most items are quite expensive and if you have to return anything it is at your own expense.

A 3 star rating from me but I recommend at least a look on this site.
