It is hard to imagine that nearly 1.5 years ago, our landlord was been looked at by our local council as the electric was dangerous and they told us to move out for our own safety. How ever they offered to put us up in a hotel and leave the dogs in the house until the council property was free on the following Monday. Now our pets are our babes, we have no children and under no way would we leave them. It was a case we all go or we all stay and we decided to risk it at the thought if the house did go up in flames, we could keep all the pets nearby and all get out and safe and well. That weekend must have been one of the worst as we turned on electricity that was crackling andd buzzing, we kept the pets close to hand so we could get them all out. I would run back into a burning house and risk my life for any of my pets without a second thought. Now when the flat was ready, we thought we would transfer the furniture that we had and get the bond back off the landlord. The only problem was that he had flogged the house and we lost everything. When we moved into the flat all we had was a bed and my computer and not a lot else. We had lost a lot of money on the bond and at the age of 35 we were skint and threadbare. In the years at the new flat, we decided that it was not for us and we decided to slum live for a year or so and eat the cheapest food and not decorate or put carpets down. This way we could save up for a house. It was hard work but we had something to aim for. In just over a year we managed to save the £7,000 deposit we needed to buy this house. So most of the money went on that so now we have to Bargain Hunt and I do this by going to Jumble Sales or Car Boots and if I see something that is of good quality I will buy it and re-do it up or fix it and use it for something. Here are some of the bargains that I have accumulated and how cheap you can get good quality products by spending a bit of time doing them up to
your taste. Two solid wooden lamps without shades bought today for £2 from the local charity shop. Immaculate condition and worth around £40. I used to have a pair of these. Now although they are in a blue colour which is not to my taste. I will lightly sand them down and then use Plastikote on them and this will turn them a different colour. I will then get a little bit of gold paint to paint on the beige background and create a marble effect and dust it off. So it will cost me around £4 to do these up and then I will buy some nice lampshades for a couple of quid. A coloured TV from the 1970s. It is in silver and in immaculate condition and has the most perfect picture. Although it is old, why throw away what is broken. This is currently in my bedroom and will be in the kitchen when it is done. The aerial, I picked up from another stall for £2.50 A two piece suite. A couple of weeks ago, a friend said you can have our old three piece suite and we arranged to pick it up. However whilst going to the charity shop, I saw a two seater and one chair which would perfectly match our front room and conforms to all of the fire and safety regulation. It was a bit dusty and was hardly used. They let me have it for £10. what a bargain. We arranged for the other suite to go to my hubbys mum who was over the moon with it and we kept the one from the charity shop. All we did was get a cleaner for upholstery for £2 and give it a good clean. It is now like brand new. We got a washing machine for £20 secondhand as the door was sticking, it would cost us another £30 for a new door. However on inspection at home, the only problem with it was the rubber seal had got caught under the underside of the door and would not shut. A little help to push it back and the door now perfectly shuts quite well. A pair of silver candle sticks for 50p which did not match the bathroom so i spray painted a bit of black over it to give it a gothic effect. They
look brilliant. A pair of chrome and brass touch lamps worth around £60. I really loved these but the girl said i could have them for £4 brand new and boxed. She said you would not be able to get the lightbulbs for them but you know me, i love a challenge and we found them at the local hardware store and was so chuft. they are good quality. i can only think that they had bought the wrong ones. A carpet, one of my friends were having a clear out and was having a new carpet. Now there was nothing wrong with the carpet other than the colour. We got it off her and I recut it for my hall, stairs and landing and it looks lovely, we got this for free. Another of my friends neighbours was throwing away a shed and they dismantled it, Scooobydooo to the rescue and we got a new shed for free and it only cost us around £1 to recoat it and it looks like new. Two pair of heavy curtains, tab tops, full length to the floor. £2 for the two sets. When the lady sold them to me, she told me that she had paid over £200 a pair to have them made. These have kept our bedroom nice and warm. We have also bought some little plates that were made by wedgewood and other famous pottery companies and I tend to go for unusual designs. i paid 10p for them and they have been valued at £30 each. I love recycling bits and pieces and just because it is not in your colour, with a bit of time and energy spent on them, you can save a fortune. Now saying all this, i do not have a house full of junk stuff that i have bought. Last year I spent £600 on a new table and chairs in light cherry oak and am very disappointed that the chairs are falling apart after just one year. Oh well, better had stick to my bargains Karen :0)
The thrill of the bargain!! Bargaincrazy.com is a website that sells a selection of products that were in last seasons GUS home shopping catalogue. The site is easy to navigate, and has several different categories, ..Home and leisure..which has good selction of furniture, and soft furnishings, bedroom , kitchen and dining room items.ie,previously priced at £300 full dining suites for less than £150. take a look and be delighted at the mark down! ..Garden and diy, section can be selling anything from drills to lawnmowers, that are considerably cheaper than DIY stores. ..Audio and electrical, here at the time of writing this, you can get a small selection of the top of the range dyson vacs in the range of £175!! and MUFC audio products with £45 markdown, if you are that way inclined. ..Nursery and toys, here you may choose from out door toys, dolls, action toys etc.Marvelous if you want to stock up on good quality prezzies for parties or for your children without breaking the bank. Many of the toys are less than half price ..Gifts and jewellery, you can buy designer watches, perfumes etc for much much less than you would pay on the high street, gold jewelery , such as chains and rings are often being sold for the silliest of low prices. ..Each of these sections have subsections also, ie 'gifts and jewellery' is broken down into 'gifts', 'watches', and 'perfumes' ..Now for my favourite categories, this is 'rock bottom' and 'price plunge',..the former consists of a mismash of clothing, and household items for everyone, there are skirts , trousers , shirts, swimwear and shoes, the prices start at about 99p , they are presently selling real leather skirts for 99p that were retailing for £33!!! The latter is great fun, they have a small selection of stuff, ie rugs, jewelery, fridges, cookers, televisions hifi equipment that they start a
t 40% off the catalogue retail price.Over the next few days they reduce the price by 10% perday, up to 90%. If you want to play their waiting game you could get a huge bargain...or the stuff you were after could all sell out at 60% or there abouts. If it sells out,you miss out, as they say! My friend has set Bargaincrazy.com as her home page JUST incase she misses a bargain! Now what might like to remember is that home shopping catalogues have a tendency to mark up their prices somewhat in order i guess to afford to offer their interest free credit on purchasing under normal circumstances, but even taking this into account, the goods are MUCH cheaper than you could buy them anywhere else. There is one charge for however many items you may want to order, so however much you spend its only going to cost you £3.99 postage. Most stuff is delivered within 2 days of ordering, and you are offered a full money back guarantee if you return the good within 2 weeks. the same as if you were ordering via mail order through the catalogue. You can safely order online, or you may prefer to ring through to the very friendly and helpful phone line. I get the impression there arent many of them in their office , it seems very cosy and personal. I suggest you have a browse, and maybe get a friend to order with you, so as to only incurr the one postage charge. [can you tell I am really really mean!?] So there you go. i dont know why i have decided to tell the world about this wonderful site, cos I guess it means less bargains for me in the long run, you will all be on there buying up my priceplunge items before they get a chance to reduce by 90%. More fool me eh? Hope this is useful for you all.
I can't even remember how I stumbled onto this site, but I'm glad I did. It is an ex-catalogue shop that have high street stores, you may have seen them as X-Cat. The products they stock, are as you may imagine, the sort of things you may buy in Index, brand names like JMB, Orion, etc. Not the most prestigious, but still offering unbeatable bargains. They do have some more upmarket names, but, in general they tend to be the cheaper names. As for choice, well, you are sure to find something you didn't know you needed! Portable CD players are only £15! A larder fridge, £67! And, vcr's, when they've got them, only £39! Furniture, too, is at bargain basement prices, from, tables and chairs, to sofas, and chests of drawers. Every electrical item is catered for, like pressure washers, £39, portable CD/radio/casette, £18. Some clothing available as well, but not too much to speak of. Carriage costs vary, depending on the price of the order. For, instance, it's £5 for items of £5-50 value, and so on. Even though the costs increase, you can still make a very tidy saving on your purchases. Before you buy that electrical item, or piece of furniture, just check out www.youpayhalfprice.co.uk, you may be pleasantly surprised!
Towsure Products Limited www.towsure.co.uk Having used this company on several occasions I feel that I am more than qualified to be able to recommend their service and products. This company sells such a vast range of products that it would be impossible to list them all. Their range covers camping, trailers and towbars, tools, eletrical goods, auto parts, cycling, travel, garden and outdoor, security, caravanning, housewares etc, in other words practically everything to do with towing and leisure products. Orders can be placed by phone, fax, post, over the net or by Email. They have available a comprehensive catalogue of some 223 pages which can be obtained free from any of the above contact methods. Orders are sent promptly in my experience, and at very reasonable carriage rates i.e. £3 95. Per order, so it doesn’t matter how much or little you order you know the carriage is only going to cost that one rate. Obviously delivery for the next working day or 48hr-timed delivery is extra. As I said I have used this company on quite a few occasions and have found them to be totally reliable, helpful, fast and efficient and their products are first class and usually well under high street prices in fact many are what I would call bargains!!! Not only have I shopped with this company but also so have relatives and we have all found it to be top notch in every way and I have no hesitation in highly recommending it.
