Barnes & NobleNewest Review: ... to Amazon as it seems more muted and comfortable - like an old friend - versus the busy and loud design of Amazon. The only design thing I dislike about B&N is that the site likes to log you off after you've left the page open for a while and you have to log on again if you come back to it. That almost never happens with Amazon, except when you are ready to make an order and they ask you to sign in to the secure part. This does actually mean that B&N is probably more secure than Amazon, but slightly more annoying. Of course, Amazon does have a much larger selection of goods than B&N does, since they expanded to such things... more |

When I recently joined a site that pays me through PayPal, I immediately had to find out where I was going to use my earnings, since Amazon wasn't an option. When I found out that Barnes & Noble took PayPal I knew I had my answer. Yes, there are other sites - some cheaper - that also take PayPal, but one doesn't always want to use smaller sites since their size sometimes means less good service or products. That's why I'm recommending Barnes & Noble (from hereon in B&N, and you can find it at either www.bn.com or www.barnesandnoble.com) for those of us here who want to use their earnings to buy things like books, CDs and DVDs. First of all, the ... Read the complete review

UPDATE: 23/07/02 After having been unavailable for the past month or two, B&N university is now up and running again. The first courses start on 5 August, but enrollment is already possible. What are the changes? Well, the main change is that most of the courses are not free anymore (called “Premier Courses”). Most of the courses now cost around $70 and more. They promise you more instructor involvement this time though. Courses include Access, Excel, CSS, the Craft of Knitting (seriously!), Spanish for Beginners, etc. There are still free courses available though, including DHTML, Astrology, Writing for Children, etc. ... I was generally surfing last Saturday night when I came across Barnes & Noble. I wasn't looking for books, I wanted to buy a new PC game. My favorite store in The States for games was a place called "Babbages", they sold everything from PC to Playstation and was a place I visited whenever I could or at least whenever my husband let me! What's the point of my rambling? Well, I found out that Barnes & Noble bought out Babbages and are now combined under one roof. The new store, which is on the the same site as the book store, is called "Gamespot" and has a good selection of old and new games for all systems. I know ... Read the complete review

I have used Barnes & Noble many times and even registered for a couple of their Barnes & Noble University "classes," which I enjoyed. I always thought they were very competative with Amazon and I also liked the fact that they also have a successful retail chain. I really did have about 7 really good experiences with B & N purcheses online, until recently -- I purchased my first "non-book" item -- a video for my daughters birthday. I made this purchase on 5/06/01 and when I had not received it by 5/11/01, I sent an email to the online customer service department. It took them more than 24 hours to respond (with something other than an ... Read the complete review

Barnes and Noble is one of the major online bookstores. Of course it's main competitor is Amazon US and all its many branches in all those other countries. Getting back to B&N its pretty similar to that other bookstore mentioned above. The one major difference yours truly sees it is that it is an actual off line bookstore as well. That is if you live in the US you can actually go into the store and buy merchandise. B&N physical stores sell of course, books, magazines, stationary, tarot cards, CDs, tapes and more. Of course you can buy these items on the Net too. Discounts are usually about 20 to 40 % discounted. There are super bargains, especially ... Read the complete review
