Advantages: Good selection
Disadvantages: Not everyone can take advantage of what's on offer
I was generally surfing last Saturday night when I came across Barnes & Noble. I wasn't looking for books, I wanted to buy a new PC game. My favorite store in The States for games was a place called "Babbages", they sold everything from PC to Playstation and was a place I visited whenever I could or at least whenever my husband let me! What's the point of my rambling? Well, I found out that Barnes & Noble bought out Babbages and are now combined under one roof. The new store, which is on the the same site as the book store, is called "Gamespot" and has a good selection of old and new games for all systems. I know that a lot of people won't be able to take advantage of all that's available because it's designed for NTSC and not PAL but the selection of PC games makes it a place well worth visiting and if you are able to use the Playstation or Nintendo games then I would definitely recommend it. The site is divided into sections which give you the option of browsing by category i.e. action, adventure etc. They also have a used game section which is great for finding old games that you can't find anywhere else, I found an old copy of "Tombi" for my son, you can't seem to find that one anywhere and it's only about 2 years old. They have every game listed by availability and release date along with the price - which is quite reasonable although it's all listed in dollars ( one dollar is apprx. 75p) and you can order games that haven't been released yet! If you do this they don't charge your credit card until the games are shipped - not too bad really is it. The average price for games was about $30.00 and they do ship internationally but I can't tell you how much they charge because my shipping address is Stateside! Sorry. I don't know how many people know this but you can purchase an item called a "plug-mod" for
the Playstation that allows you to play NTSC games on an English Playstation which is what we did, so that we could buy games from these places. The place to find it is: www.plugmod.com and as long as you have the port on the back of your Playstation to plug it in, it should work. I'm not too sure that this is in the right section but I couldn't find it anywhere else, please let me know if I've boobed won't you?

- 05/09/01 As your audience here isn't based in the States, I think you should have looked up how much the charge is for shipping internationally and included the info in your op. Malu |
