After 6 orders, my assessment (Barnes & Noble)

Advantages: Big range, good information

I have placed six orders with Barnes & Noble and this is my experience:

- PRICES fairly closely matched those of Amazon.com, as did their carriage/postage costs.

- RANGE was sometimes slightly better than Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk. They were sometimes able to supply books that Amazon could not supply.

- INFORMATION on books was significantly better than Amazon.com. They frequenty gave a full contents listing for serious non-fiction, including reviews. This can be a big plus when you are trying to assess a book that you cannot handle!

- SERVICE was always pretty good. No significant problems there.

- SPECIAL OFFERS: since I have been on their mailing list, I have had a successions of offers: either "$10 off my next order of $40" or "$5 off my next order of $30" - this was for either books or music.
