Advantages: Cheap, well made glasses
Disadvantages: Website could be improved
I chose to order from Best4Glasses as they were really cheap & had free delivery, plus I got 10% off using a discount code. So I got a great pair of specs for just under £18!
Website Good Points:
It is easy to browse around the site and the frames are in different categories like Standard, Memory Metal, Rimless and Designer. You can also filter by which gender they are suitable for or by manufacturer.
Ordering glasses online is always going to be tricky as it's difficult to tell how they're going to look. So I do like the fact that they have photos of the frames from many different angles and close-up shots too. They don't have the facility to see the frames on a person's face like other websites, but I personally don't think that's a very accurate tool anyway.
The ordering process is very simple, you just select the frames you want, then the lenses and then enter your prescription details.
As these were glasses for occasional wear, I only selected the Free Scratch Resistant Coating lenses, but you can pay more to have the following added to your lenses:
· bifocal £20
· tinted £7
· photochromatic £45
· thinner from £40
· anti-reflective £30
· uv protection £10
Website Bad Points:
The descriptions of the frames aren't very clear, especially the Frame Dimensions measurements, which are just listed in a long line so it's not easy to distinguish which measurement is for which part of the frame. It would be better if the measurements were on separate lines or even better if they were on an actual diagram of the frames.
Customer Service Good Points:
I ordered a pair of glasses (Icy34 Purple) and they arrived about a week later. I wasn't happy with the frames as I didn't like the dark blue front of the frames and they were too wide for my face, however the lenses were fine. So I emailed their customer services to ask if I could return the glasses and get a different style instead (Icy51 Blue which are described as Jet Black but the frame colour available is Blue, so I asked them to confirm if they were actually black, which they are). They replied the same day and said that was fine to get a free exchange, I would just need to return the glasses in the original packaging and use the provided pre-paid post address label.
Customer Service Bad Points:
After waiting a week and not receiving a confirmation that they had received the returned glasses, I emailed the same person who answered my previous query to ask if they had been received. He said that they hadn't received them yet because their pre-paid post service isn't as good as it should be and I should wait another couple of days. He also gave me a direct contact number if I needed more help.
But then 2 days later my new glasses arrived! So they obviously have a broken link in their chain of communication between their departments.
Summary:
Overall I am very happy with my glasses. I wear contact lenses everyday and I got these glasses for when I take my lenses out before I go to bed and for when I need to give my eyes a break. So I didn't want to spend a fortune on a pair of glasses I wasn't going to wear very often, but these are so good that I might start wearing them all the time!
Top Tip:
If you have quite a strong prescription then you might want to spend a bit more to get the thinner lenses. My left eye is -5 so the lens is quite thick, however the style of frames I chose totally encapsulates the lenses so you can't tell the difference from the other thinner lens.
Summary: I would buy from them again
