Advantages: Fast, Cheap, Efficient
Disadvantages: Not great looking
After spending a few weeks in California recently, I came back with a raging hard-on for smoothies. You know, those drinks that mix a few lumps of fruit with some frozen yoghurt, a few vitamins and maybe a bit of sorbet. Shove it all in a blender for a minute or so, et voila! Something that tastes like it really should be bad for you, but isn't. I really can't understand why the things aren't as popular over here as they are in Cali, where there's a Jamba Juice on every corner. But they aren't, so I decided to buy a blender. Quick bit of research revealed that I could get one from Argos for about £2.50, but if I wanted a real metal, 50s diner styled one, with a glass jug, I'd need to spend a little more. I soon decided that the blender of my dreams was a Kitchen Aid, manufactured in the good old USofA, and I searched the 'net for a good price. The best price I found was on BestStuff. A site I hadn't seen before, and one that differs considerably from other Internet shops I'd used. Instead of carrying a huge rainge of items, BestStuff just carries a small range (usually one) of each category. The one they carry is in their opinion the best money can buy. And although such things are a matter of taste, most of what they sell is top notch, at great prices. Their products tend to be 'electrical items' ranging from Toasters, Blenders etc through to Telephones and Camcorders. In some areas the lack of range is not really a problem, Dyson's clearly are the best vacuums, the Kitchen Aid blender really does rock. But then vacuums suck and blenders blend. In other areas, the lack of selection is a bit of a let down. BestSuff only has one camcorder, but it's one of the monster large ones. Some of their telephones are a bit basic. In other areas, such as televisions, their range is a little larger, and they should have something to suit most customers. But if you are looking for something speci
fic, the AV Amplifier to go with your DVD player, for instance, you can't count on BestStuff having it in their range. The site itself is not particularly well designed, but it works fine. Few graphics mean that it is pretty fast to download. But the unique thing is that the write ups about each product (under the "Why is it Best?" button) are clearly written by someone who has actually seen and used the piece of kit, rather than just copied from the back of the box. Once I purchased from BestStuff, they were very helpful, even sending me a personal "thanks for using the store" email. I have subsequently required their customer services department. And I found them to be quick, polite and efficient. I just bought a Dyson vacuum for a friend's wedding present, but just browsing on BestStuff today, I realise that had I bought it from them, I could have saved myself money... a great store, even if it doesn't look to great!
